Windows to the Past.
(Not my family. Google Image Search)
I pose a situation and a question to you:
You are in the now, you're a grown adult and with kids of your own thus making your own parents grandparents and your siblings aunties and uncles. Congratulations! You have successfully expanded the family tree and gone up a level!
Every now and then a photo album emerges from some hidden spot (kids have dug them up from somewhere) and run to show their grandparents the treasure. Everyone is happy to see some pictures and wonder who they are of. The kids give the photos to the closest grandparent as they would most likely know who it is because they are older.
You are around within earshot but not with them. Your current appearance due to whatever reason is different from the ones in the past, in other words you are now overweight when you weren't in the past. Your siblings however have not gained weight but only gained a few greys, wrinkles and also added to the brood.
Your kid starts asking who the people in the photo album are and grandparent rattles of names of relatives stating how they are related. Kid loves hearing this but then this happens, the comments from the grandparent:
Regarding images of deceased relatives, senior living and older relatives, cousins and siblings: 'That's was your so and so' or 'That's so and so when they were young'. When viewing images of yourself: 'This is mummy/daddy when they were skinny'
Notice they say skinny not younger when referring to other relatives who are healthy weight, what the hell is up with that?
I know being overweight is not good on anyone and we should all take care of ourselves but to single you out from the rest of the family and to put you down in front of our kid like that. That's doesn't seem right.
What do you all think?
