Ideals of Beauty in Contemporary Society. Does appearance matter or not ?

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Hello, dear friends Steemians.

Today I want to share a topic that has had a lot of controversy in recent years and I think it is necessary to discuss it.

For many years men and women have fought and won to achieve certain beauty standards that have been instilled by different cultures around the world. It is necessary to clarify that the concept of Beauty is as sensitive as what it represents, but for this post we will focus mainly on physical beauty.

You should have seen on different occasions that what we here in America consider as something Pretty or someone Attractive in other parts of the world, like in Germany or Korea an Attractive person or something Pretty has a concept completely different, but then there must be a common behavior that complements this characteristic ... True? That's where the phrase is born:

1.- "Beauty is inside".

Whoever has not heard this, raise your hand. The phrase "you are beautiful inside" has become very common in our day and not by chance, many people have tried to highlight the fact that the personality, essence, kindness and even the soul of a being what really it matters, all in order to highlight our qualities so we can feel better with ourselves, because the outside changes and what is beautiful today in the light of the sun, tomorrow can`t be.

George Sand, said:

"The exterior beauty is not more than the charm of an instant, the appearance of the body is not always the reflection of the soul".

The change that this ideology has achieved is remarkably large compared to other projects that have changed the mentality of this damaged society. Exposed the previous point, please write the first word you can think of when you see the next picture.

These were Chaoko's words for his interview with PlayGround in 2017:

It's not a disguise, I am not a character either. I´m always like this.

The first word that many thought was crazy, another few that she was cute, but beauty is subjective. Link to the interview here. The worrying thing is that so many people who defend the ideology of beauty, the interior catalog becomes something else by the way they look, which brings me to the second point ...

2.- If appearance is doesn´t matter, why do we think this way?

One of the qualities of the human being is the way in which we perceive information through the senses and the sight has the ability to capture much more attention than taste or hearing. The First impression takes less than 5 seconds and is directly linked to the appearance, but we don´t question this in our day to day because it helps us choose:

Left or right?

Leave it in the comments!

So, if the human being is guided by sight, what about the appearance?

3.- The Appearance IS IMPORTANT!

Unfortunately, this is the reality in which we live, there will always be preference for some people or some objects for having greater qualities, this is mainly because appearances are closely linked to our social prejudices and it is something that we can´t change in an open and close your eyes, as it is intended to happen in order to fall back into the vice of lies, where the only ones we deceive is ourselves.

Society since its inception has complied with a series of rules in order to keep the crowd under control and to be able to classify their majority into select groups (this is achieved through appearance), the problem begins when the acceptance of the group to which it belongs.

4.- Find a balance.

To believe that there is a perfection to which one is obliged to arrive, to subject the body to reach that goal and thus achieve to please a select group of people does not assure acceptance and much less happiness because the standard of beauty in some cases it reaches points that the body can not satisfy. To change something about yourself, whether it is your interior or your exterior, is only for you.

Finding the balance for all this is very simple and consists of three simple steps, Be, do, seem.

Who we are and what we do must be consistent with what we look like.

For now I say goodbye, but not before reminding you that we are beautiful, inside and out.

Read you later.
