Japanese Street Food ~ Takoyaki Squid Balls

in #life8 years ago (edited)

Takoyaki is a ball shaped snack made with a flour batter and typically filled with minced octopus, green onions, and pickled ginger.  It is usually served with mayonnaise and sprinkled with various toppings like green onion, dried seaweed, or dried bonito (dried & smoked tuna flakes).

Since it is street food, we had to eat it while standing….it was fresh out of the hot cooking pan…the balls are soft with chewy squid inside..the mayonnaise and green onion made it extra tasty… a very yummy snack.

Cute Squid arts on the store sign...cute little shop…

Squid balls are being cooked in a special ball shaped moulded pan.

You order based on the toppings.

Remember to give it a try the next time you are visiting Japan.

Looks outstanding! Japan is definitely on my list of places to travel, not only for the delicious food, but to see and hike Mt. Fuji. Any recommendations on other things to do while I'm there? - Hansenator

Maybe consider hot spring (onsen)? visit Japanese temples, watch tuna auction in the fish market....list can go on...have fun :)

Springs are awesome! I'm into scuba diving, but probably not the place for that. Haha. It's going to have to be a two week or more trip.

you might want to visit Okinawa island...It's known for its beaches and coral reefs...is also a popular wedding destination

Thank you for the advice!
