Itaewon (이태원) and Myeong-dong (명동) in Seoul (서울)

in #life8 years ago

After a few extremely packed and busy days we decided to have a more relaxing day. We decided to visit Itaewon, a very western part of Seoul compared to the other areas. South Korea is very homogenous in ethnicity, with most people ethnically from the country itself. However, Itaewon breaks this norm and is home to several other nationalities and ethnicities, including several Americans. Apparently, this is because it is where the American camp was based previously. Due to this is catered to people from foreign backgrounds, including cafes, restaurants, and shops and therefore is naturally the place to go all for all foreigners moving to Seoul. We had a lovely but staple lunch off one of the back streets run by a local grandma. Her Kimchee soup was second to none!! Admittedly, there is not much to do in Itaewon but it worth going to due to the Line Friends shop! I got a phone case from the shop and enjoyed cuddling the huge teddy bears scattered over the 3 storey store!

After spending a few hours in Itaewon, we decided to make our way back to Myeong-dong (check out my first blog post!) where we knew would have a great evening atmosphere due to the food street and entertainment.

I really do love Seoul as there is such a variety of things that you can do and experience! From the traditional palaces to the modern street food areas, you are never disappointed by the experiences.
