How to tidy up and become a happier person

in #life7 years ago (edited)

I tidy up, therefore I am.

Real life begins after putting your house in order. - Marie Kondo

When you experience what it's like to have a house really tidy, your world will change forever. Tidy up your house, but also your issues and your past. The result is that you will be able to clearly see what you need and what you don't.

But didn't we agree that mess actually boosts creativity? Is order a priority for human beings, as suggested by the barrage of articles and manuals available on the market? And, after all all, isn't it an unattainable utopia?

The skills you build when you learn to put your own house in order can influence the rest of your life in many positive ways! Our lives are very complicated, and often pull us in different directions at the same time. That's why for most people it's easier to hop from one thing to another rather than fully focusing on one thing at a time. The result is a terrible lack of organization.

How to tidy up like a pro

Get rid of things, rinse and repeat

It all comes down to two things: getting rid of things and deciding where to put them. Two tasks to accomplish... and elimination comes first. Make sure you complete the first task before you proceed to the next one.

Sort by category and not by location

Instead of clearing up room by room, focus on one category. For example, clothes (which also have subcategories such as sports or shoes), CDs, books, etc. Start with clothes, books and other items, and end up with those objects you're more attached to. If you reduce your possessions in this order, your efforts will flow with amazing ease.

Does it bring happiness to my life?

This is the cornerstone of this whole process: to discard anything that doesn't bring you joy. We need to be surrounded only by things that make us happy. For some people, this means having a lot of things. For others, only a handful will be enough. The key is identifying everything that makes you happy. For most of us this is not an easy task, I know. But it's the best way to make sure that we live with what really pleases us. And in just the right amount!

Take action now, all at once

Some people believe that this is a process that never ends, something that we must do every day. But others say that the purge must be done once, in a single sitting, in order to change the mindset dramatically. I share this view: forget about keeping a pile of ambiguous items. Procrastination is an unforgivable sin! If you tidy up a bit every day, you will never accomplish your goals.

Say no to storage products: use empty shoe boxes instead

No need to buy spacers or anything like that. You can solve your storage problems with things you already have at home. The most common object that you can use is an empty shoe box. Keep it simple!

What can I do when I simply can't let go?

Think of that cookware you inherited from your grandma. You've been carrying it with you wherever you move, even though you secretly know it's horrendous. When you bump into something that you can't let go, think carefully about its true purpose in your life. You'd be surprised to discover how many things you own have already served their purpose. By letting them go with gratitude, you will be able to put your possessions in order... and your whole life!

thank you for your efforts towards encouraging and embracing the "less is more" life ~ to understand when and how to keep and when and how to let go.... its a struggle for many of us, particularly those of us that have such sentimental values attached to "objects..." ~ the trick is to realize the beauty and usefulness of something in an everyday, practical setting .... I now know that I don't need to warehouse things that are not functional or "base line" items...

You're totally right!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! ;)
