It may always be good to be prepared relatively to the situation, and not crazily about anything. For instance, during my Xmas vacation time, we were living in a chalet and could be stuck from civilization in case of snow storms. Good, we had extra doses of food, water, candles, batteries, etc, so that we could survive for a few days. In my normal life, this is not necessary.

All of this to say that it is good to be prepared, but one needs to carefully choose what to be prepared for.
