Trip to South India - Part 3
PART 3#Ooty - After enjoying unseasonal rains and seeing some of the most beautiful places in Mysore, my family and I headed towards our next destination Ooty. Ooty is said to be one of the best hill stations in India, located on Nilgiris mountains. We reached Ooty by 1:00 PM and were greeted by cold weather and it was so cold that the temperature was down to -4 degrees celsius. I had never experienced such cold weather in my life before, you can imagine what could have been the night temperature and how cold it would have been.
Ooty has some interesting facts, that I came to know from one of the guides who was with us throughout the next day, what he said was really surprising.
1 - Former England cricketer and captain Colin Cowdrey was born in Ooty.
2 - One of the biggest Golf course in India, is in Ooty which comprises of 18 holes spread over 190 acres.
3 - The game of Snooker was invented in Ooty.
I had never known any of the above facts before this.
Ooty is also known for its beautiful locations and greenery, many of the Indian filmmakers never miss out on the opportunity of shooting some scenes here. We came across a number of beautiful gardens, lakes, high mountain peaks, dams, museums and historical buildings, but as I limited time, there were only a few places that I could see.
- Rose Garden:
This is one of the most beautiful gardens you will ever see, and if you love flowers and especially roses than this is the perfect place. The garden has a collection of over 20,000 types of roses collected and brought to Ooty from different parts of the world, cleanliness was the biggest feature of this garden, It is also considered as one of the biggest rose gardens in Asia.
- Pykara lake:
Pykara lake is situated in between the hills, which makes it a beautiful place and if you love adventure and boating this is the perfect place in Ooty. One of the biggest attractions of this place was the boathouse, this was simply amazing, spending a day in boathouse was like a dream, the luxurious rooms, and fine restaurant, which provided quality food that made my day. If you go to Ooty make sure you don't miss this opportunity as this is one of the few places in India where you will find a boat house.
- Dolphin Point:
It is also known as the "Dolphin Nose", This is the best place to view Catherine Falls, which attracts lots of tourists every year. The roads to this place were amazing with tea plantations on both sides giving it a greener look.
The trip to Ooty was coming to end so was my tour of South India, but this place was something that I enjoyed the most. The cold weather made the trip to Ooty more exciting, from here, I moved on to my last destination Kodaikanal ...
