RE: How This Mountain Girl From West Virginia Ended Up In Portugal. Buckle Up! (Part Two)
I thought it was only in Nigeria that girls are taught to aspire to marriage. In my country, there is no achievement greater than marriage so women endure abuse from obnoxious men to stay married. Worse thing is the church and society support it when they remind the woman constantly that mindless submission is everything. Alot of women forget their dreams are valid around here. Thank you for this great post. Reminds me why i need to get off my a@s and focus on my dreams again.
Unfortunately it seems to be a fairly universal idea, it just comes wrapped in a different colored paper with blue ribbons instead of purple. It amounts to the same thing when we are taught that the only day we should truly aspire to is our wedding day because we get to wear a pretty dress. Nobody ever says anything about the next 50 or 60 years of your life, just picture that huge white dress...Thanks for your response! :)
