MONEY 101: MONETIZE YOUR SKILL (Part 1)

On Monday morning I dropped a post here on how you can use ordinary #200 to acquire a skill that can be fetching you money.

There are two sets of people who read or will read that article.

The first sets are the doers, those who have started implementing or putting to practice that simple strategy or those who will read it and go straight to work. These are the people that would be sharing their testimonies here very soon.

The second group of people are the procrastinators, those who have read it and are still procrastinating on when will be suitable for them to try it out or those who will read it and do nothing. These are the people that will be blaming Buhari and their village people when others start getting results.

What am about to share here is not how you would make millions from your skill, at least not for now. I am going to share simple strategies you can use to make little money from that skill you just acquired or will acquire soon.

This strategy is not for our “big Ogas” here who are already making millions. This strategy here is for the newbies here who are still looking for avenues to start making small or to make some money and venture into the business of their dreams.

So, if you are a newbie here please follow me gradually as I will share simple strategy that can make you small money in August.

Just like the children of Issachar who understood the times, entrepreneurs who understand the times will definitely do better and make more money than those who do not understood the times.

Next month (August) is long vacation as students will be on holiday. Many parents and guardians would be looking for where they can be sending their children or wards daily at least to avoid their disturbances. So, this is already a problem that needs solutions. Am sure you have heard many times that if you want to make money you must solve problems right? Now this is a problem that would be facing many parents and guardians next month-how they can keep their children or wards busy this summer holiday so they won’t be disturbing them too much nor having much time to play around.

Here is the catch now...

One way to monetize your skill is to teach your skill.

You heard me right. Teach your skill and charge little money for it. In case you don’t have any skill at all, you can leverage on other people’s skills and still make money.

I know you are wondering how to go about it in your mind right now.... But relax; I have all the answers already made for you. Just follow these steps am about to outline here now.

STEP #1: List three or more of your friends who have one skill or the other. Call them for a meeting and share this idea with them. Tell them you want them to partner with you and organize a SKILL ACQUISITION program for the youths this summer holiday. The Skill acquisition program could run for one week, two weeks or the whole one month, but I prefer one week. Once they agree, bravo you can now move to the next step.

STEP #2: Meet your pastor and tell him you want to organize A ONE WEEK SKILL ACQUISIION program for the youths, and that you want him to permit you guys to use the church hall or premises to make that happen.

Here are some of the questions your pastor will ask you;

1: Are they going to pay for the training?
2: Is one week enough for them to learn the skills?
3: What are the skills you intend to teach them?
4: How will the church benefit from this program?

Now let me help you answer the above questions.

1: The skill acquisition is FREE but.... they will have to pay a token of #2,000 which covers their certificates that would be awarded to them and the cost of materials that would be used to train them.

2: Yes, one week is enough as the training is 100% practical class. So within one week of intensive practical class, they would have gotten to the level where they can at least become good enough to start making something useful with the skill.

3: The skills we intend to teach them are bla bla bla and bla (You go ahead and list the skills you and your friends are going to teach).

4: The church would benefit in so many ways. First, is an avenue for soul winning (Every pastor wants to hear this one). Secondly, as we will be using the church facility for the program, the members would pay just #1500 out of the #2000 for their certificate and training materials. With the skills, the youths of this church would be gainfully employed and be useful to the church so that once there’s need here they can support the work of God.

At this point the pastor will surely agree and permit you to use the church premises or hall for the event.

STEP #3: Design an eflier for the event and run facebook ads targeting those living within your environment (city). I may not be able to write more about running facebook ads here but get the point.

Draft a letter using your organization or company letter head and send those letters to all the churches around your area inviting their youths for your upcoming SKILL ACQUISITION program coming up so so and so time. If you send out 100 letters to 100 churches and 5 people on average from each church attend, you already have 500 audiences plus the ones that would see it online via your facebook ads.

STEP #4: Go and gather enough materials on the subjects you guys are going to be training them on. If there’s any of the skill you need to perfect more on, use the firs strategy I shared before and go to YouTube and master your craft.

Now go ahead and deliver excellently......

INCOME PROJECTION: Let’s assume you follow this strategy and succeeds in having 5 people from each of the 100 churches you sent letters to, that’s 500 in attendance already right?

Let’s do some mathematical calculations, 500 x #2,000 = #1,000,000 (1 million naira only)

So, with this simple strategy you can even make up to one million within one week or one month. You can repeat this process in four different locations using the same formula in all the weeks in August.

You can decide to give them materials (Handouts) for free or charge them just #500 for it which will be additional money for your facilitators. Also note that, some of them can still come back for one on one coaching and mentorship, this will also be another avenue for you to make money but don’t scare them away with high charges please.

EXPENSES PROJECTION: While you are calculating your profits, let’s also calculate your expenses.

Fuelling of the church generator because you cannot trust NEPA: #2,000 x 6 days = #12,000. If you are lucky the church might support you by giving you power for free.

Certificate for the participants: Use DI-Direct Image to print their certificates which would cost you #35 per each cert. DI is usually in A3, so two certs can be placed in one A3 and printed which cost #70 per sheet making each cert #35. So, let’s assume you have 500 participants you would spend 500 x #35 = #17,500 + #500 for cutting and trimming of the certificates making it #18,000 to print 500 certificates.

If you are also offering catering services, cosmetology and other skills that require lots of materials for their practical, ask the facilitator to give you the lowest cost. No time to deal more on this.

After you are done, do two things. As a Christian you must sow seed back to the church even though you had already subsidized the price for their members. And secondly, sow another seed into the life of the person who wrote this article (just kidding). But make sure you give something back to the church as a way of encouraging the work of God going on there.

There are few other ways you can also teach your skills and make money. But this article is long already and I don’t want to bore you so just apply this particular one for now. Watch out for #MONEY101 PART 2.
