Almost everyone is on the defensive, they are reacting, and they are not acting. Most of my friends blame me for being a super pessimist. I am always thinking of the worst that can happen in every situation and how I am prepared to leverage that. I learned the hard way that if you are on the defensive, you are always going to be struggling.

You don’t want to be in the position of the defensive. You can see it in soccer, the team that’s on the defensive is never settled, makes more mistakes and gets beaten. Nothing scares your competitors than knowing you are on the offensive. I intentionally try to ignore my competitors, in that way, I pride myself for being on the offensive. When you are on the offensive, you control the game, the narrative and the rules. You are unpredictable.

That’s why most people struggle with public relations. They are always on the defensive during crises. In times of a crisis, be on the offensive, never on the defensive. I will forever stress this point of being on the offensive. Be attacking, be the aggressor, be the predator not the prey. Don’t follow the trends, set the trends.
Somewhere I read that the best safeguard, the best defense is to be on the offense. You can only defend yourself by attacking, attacking the market, attacking the opponent. There is no better way.

The only moments this rule doesn’t apply is if you are facing many opponents at the same time. Then in this case, you have to choose whom to attack while having some resources on the defense. Otherwise attacking all will see you running around like a headless chicken.
Being on the offensive means that you can only be secure by taking risks. The only real safety lies in risk taking. Comfort can only be found in discomfort. Only defend because you are planning an attack, otherwise, be attacking or planning one.

Playing the offensive also means you don’t wait for a market, you create one. You don’t wait for a job advert; you go to an organization and create your dream position.
Finally, much more important right now, create a to-do-list for everyone in your life. List down everyone you know, all your phone contacts and list down against their names various things for them to do for you. It sounds mean, but hey, that’s it. Life is an exchange game. And if there is nothing someone can do for you, maybe introduce you to someone or offer you a service, love or something of that kind, then they are space fillers in your life and you are on the defense with them.
Once you have different actions each person should do for you, then you are clear about how to roll that out. It is the Gorilla mindset, it is the hunter mindset. Always be the hunter not the hunted.
