What She Really Needs

in #life7 years ago

This was our photography activity way back 2 years ago. Our professor asked us to take 3 pictures and explain every picture, he also said, that those pictures should be related. Our professor gave us, I think, maybe 1 week. I really had a struggle that time, I don't have any idea on what pictures should I take, or what should I advocate. But thank God my classmate offer her house for us to do a simple photo shoot. It may not be my first time to take or edit pictures, but yeah this is my first ever photo shoot. Although my models are my friends, I still struggle on directing them on what to do, or should take pictures quickly not realizing that my angle was a bit off.

I am living in third-world country, Philippines. Although our economy is raising little by little due to our strong willed president, many Filipinos are still living in poverty. Believe it or not, poverty is both the root and consequence of teenage pregnancy. Being a teen mother means having less access to educational programs, on which eventually affects their capability to provide later on in life. The reason why I chose this topic is because I have many friends, relatives and neighbors who got pregnant at very young age and I know their life will never be the same again after they deliver those children.

We have our own opinion to the causes of teenage pregnancy. Some say, it's because of rape or drugs and alcohol, peer pressure or lack of education and yes, that is true. However, in my opinion the main reason why plenty of teenagers got pregnant easily nowadays is because of parental rejection. According to PART (Parental Affection-Rejection Theory), Parental Rejection is little bit broad and has many different characteristics. It goes from, Coldness, Aggression, Indifference and Rejection. Adolescent's mind is quite fragile, they are in deep confusion if they would act maturely or childlike. It is the time where they want independence and they try to look for their identity. That is why the parents' guidance is very much needed to their development.

According to Medilexicon, parental rejection is withholding of affection from or denial of attention to one's child. Adolescent's mind is quite fragile, they are in deep confusion if they would act maturely or childlike. It is the time where they want independence and they try to look for their identity. That is why the parents' guidance is very much needed to their development. They may be unaware but a simple coldness that they feel from their parents is a big deal. If they suffer from verbal/ physical abuse, they tend to be violent to others. If the child feels unappreciated they feel useless, if he/she looks at himself/herself in the mirror, he/she may see garbage.

I think the best way to prevent teenage pregnancy is to give them the love that they deserve. Jose Rizal, Philippines' National Hero, once said, "The youth is the hope of all nations" and I say, parents should guide their children to become of their own nation. My mom would always tell me everything happens for a reason. If your daughter is getting pregnant, don't scold her or condemn her. You are all they need in that specific moment. Be strong for her, be her strength.
