How do boats stay afloat?

Have you ever wondered how boats stay afloat and not sink, despite how heavy it is and heavy loads it carries?

I mean, if you put the same volume of and object into a river or an ocean, it definitely will sink. To my understanding the shape of boats helps it not to sink, and the weight is designed to be less than that of the water, so no matter how large or full of heavy loads, it will float.

of course, if you drop an iron bar into a pool of water, it would sink, because; it's weight far outweighed that of the water and even if its weight is less than that of the water, it shapes won't allow it to float.

I think that's the raeason why ships, boats, cargo are shaped how they are, just like how planes all have same shapes that enables them fly in air. Once you this principles you will have confident like the man who made Titatic did. though his ship sank because he challenged God out of the pride and over zealous confident he had.

Great thought my friend

Right, difference in density. Thanks bro.
