Postcrastination. A lost friend and my absense from Steemit.
Yup. I did it. I have been a postcrastinator. As it turns out, nothing really happens for you on Steemit if you don't post or comment. I kept telling myself "I'll post again tomorrow, I'll post something tomorrow", and now it has been almost six months since my last post...
I have taken the last several months off from Steemit because I have had quite a lot happening in my personal life, and it just got to be too much. I got really depressed and shut down from everyone around me. A lot has happened in the last year or so. I started having a hard time keeping the negativity around me from affecting my actions on Steemit. It was really difficult to continue trying to run my positive, upbeat contests while I was so angry and depressed, so I just decided to step back and take a break for a while.

My very close friend and mentor passed away just over a year ago. He was a good man. He was best friends with my Dad when the two of them were teenagers, and I grew up knowing him as my Uncle. He was a fantastic role model, and a great source of advice and knowledge from experience to me over the years. Very proud Navy Veteran, he served on a ship off the coast during the Vietnam war, and carried his navy traditions with him for the rest of his life. This is just a very small mention of him here, and I plan on doing a much more detailed memorial post for him.
I was made the executor of the estate after he passed, which entails a ton of work. I was definitely not prepared for the responsibility. It was incredibly stressful at times, and caused a great deal of problems between me and girlfriend, but that's a completely different post. I managed to get through, and was able to put together gift packages for his friends and family. Nothing super fancy, but most assuredly sentimental. Pictures of nieces and nephews, school projects given to him over the years, little trinkets and such that he had been gifted to him by his various loved ones, I made sure that they all went to the correct people.
There were quite a few other things going on, but that is one of the biggest. All of the responsibilities of the estate have been resolved, and quite a bit of stress has been alleviated. I have also gotten a handle on a lot of the other stress factors that were happening at that time, and I am ready to get back to posting again. I haven't decided when I will be starting up my contests again, but it won't be too long. Give me a few days or so, and keep your eyes out. As it is, this post was only supposed to say "I'm going to start posting again soon" and has turned into something much longer than I intended.
If you have taken the time to read this far, Thank you! Feel free to leave me a comment below. I don't have quite as much voting weight as I used to (I stopped paying for delegations while I wasn't online), but I will still Upvote engagement. I love being able to reward people simply for having a conversation with me!
Hi,
Just be yourself.
I you are sad then post something sad.
If you feel like shit then post shit.
If you feel better than write something better.
The contests were fun but whatever, delegations don't pay what they used too. I'm sure you heard about the bytecoin drop. At your rep you got get $80 and somebody will get a referral reward of like twenty five percent for inviting you.
I would, but I didn't start a bytecoin account yet. If you look around Steemit you will see that things changed a lot. Thanks for posting. You don't have to be a positive contest host. You can be whatever you want and if you don't like it then change it.
By the way... there are a lot of new apps related to the Steem blockchain. You can try some of these apps out and those apps are curated well and will come around and give you a gogogadget upvote :)
Much love and sympathy to you in the loss of your mentor and friend.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I was in the navy for 9 years, so I know what you mean by carrying forward values. there's somethings you learn, that you just continue to live by.
