The Story of the Day... Life is unfair so be happy it is

in #life8 years ago

Today's story is about my property inspector named Ed, little did I know he would be teaching me a great life lesson to share while inspecting my new property, so here goes...I meet Ed at the property and while he's doing the inspection I ask "how long have you been doing this?" he replies well let me tell you Mike before this I had one of the largest convention planning businesses for major hotels and one of his offices on the island of Nevis, he goes on about how he had major contracts and how he and his 2nd wife built up a tremendous business together...I ask so what happened did you enjoy it?... He said yes for the time but it had it's tough moments...so I ask what was the worst part?... he then went on and talked about having to manage employees, making sure they arrived on time, and having had to fire people, and one of his highly paid employee's unbeknownst to both of he and his wife downloaded and stole his client files and set up the same business ....woah! He continues to tell me of the ups and downs of his business and then he tells me after 17 years he and his wife part ways when she tells him one day she didn't want to be married anymore......she stated not for anything he had done, but just she didn't want to be married.....Then he goes on to say, "So rather than fight since we both had plenty of money I just chose to give her the business and I then traveled the world for a year enjoying life and seeing new places".... and when he returned, he said he got tired of just playing tennis with his friends and being retired so I found this job to take up my time"...I said your retired???...He goes "yes I was"...then he says, "Mike I'm 68 years old"....What???? I said...see people if you had seen Ed you'd put him not a day pass 50 in shape athletic and smiling... happy as can be... we spoke for quite some time as he told me about his life while doing the property inspection...So when he was done I ask the most important life questions to him...and here are your 3 lessons for the day folks...I ask "after all that you have went thru in life what did you learn from all these experiences?" ...Lesson 1.... Ed replies "Well I realized life is unfair... there are bad things that happen in everyone's life that are unfair... but if you know this, than you know it is what you do with your life in spite of it's unfairness that keeps you going as a happy and healthy person".... Lesson 2...he goes on to say ...."Because you can't go back in time, what's in the pass was perfect for that time... whether good or bad for who I needed to be at that time... no matter what happened bad in my life I made a choice to move forward and focus my energy to make the best of my life with the time I had left on this earth,".... he stated, "I enjoyed all the years I had with my wife and the great times we had together and those 17 years will always be there and she will always be a part of me, we still are friends today...Lesson 3....he continues "because the only eyes you can see thru are your own... you can't be someone else to know why they do what they do .... you can only be yourself .....and you and only you can decide to be happy or not... and so I chose to be happy in spite of everything in life that was unfair :)
