Party on a boat with family members I have never seen. It was fun!
I just got home from a nice weekend up North with my dad.
Today we had a family get together with his side of the family.
It's a side I don't see often or have not seen at all in some cases.
Mostly my dad's aunts, uncles and cousins.
The party was on a boat they rented.
It was a lot of fun.
When I think about it I don't see my own cousins that often.
So meeting my dad's version of those is pretty rare I guess (or maybe it's a Dutch thing) but meeting their children even more rare! (I had never seen them before).
Luckily I have improved my social skills over the years.
I can strike a conversation much more easily than when I was younger.
I ended up mostly talked with the children of my dad's cousins.
(I could not calculate what that made me in the family...maybe a second cousin?)
They were close to my age (28) and grew up in a village up north.
It was fun hearing their stories growing up in a small village.
The nice thing about the people up North is that they are in general more open and friendlier towards people they don't know.
Everything I go there I just feel calmer.
Like they are less stressed about things in general.
It's nice.
The boat ride was nice too.
In total the boat ride lasted 5 hours!
Which was pretty long in my opinion :)
But I did learn about a whole side of the family I didn't know excited.
Which was cool.
And who knows when I will see them again!

Great idea all at some time we should follow this example, because many of the families meet in December, to celebrate Christmas and in the most painful events the wake of a family, there are gathered even those who do not know. The occupations of daily life take us away from this beautiful relationship that is to share with our families, there is always an excuse or a promise that we are going next month and so the time goes by until the end of the year and when we meet. Thanks for sharing.

Only Dutch. I used to be pretty quiet too. I'm glad that changed.
Always is the best thing someone could ever had, I love family get together most especially when you have seen each other for so long, the love is always there, nothing else could quantify that love. Cool exploring with family.
It sounds strange to you, dear @exyle, I have relatives and cousins that I do not know, even living in the same city, but that is because everyone has their own occupations and they watch their things, and you will be surprised, we only see each other when a relative leaves this land, it is when someone dies, it is the only way, and it is sad because the family is very big.
In your case, it's good that even if you do not know your uncle's children, it's good to know that they meet on fun occasions and in a good family exchange, and more on the boat, how good that is. Happy day dear @exyle.

Family gatherings are always nice.May be it's rear in your part of the world,but in our culture it's not like that.When we celebrate we call all of our relatives.Even in any function like birthday,marriage party we invite all of our family member.I can see you enjoyed that a lot.You also meet with some of your relatives who are new to you.That was nice.People from quite place they are mentally in peaceful condition every where in the world.Happy family time and wish you this kinds of family time more in your life.
