Honesty as a tool for nation building
I want to start off by saying that honesty is indeed the best policy. The greatest joy you can feel is when you look back and tell your children or people that you lived a honest life.
But let me start off by saying that can we really live a spotless life? a life where we can look back and say we actually did live a life without bribes and scandals, a life where we were the legends the eulogy spoke about.
An eulogy is basically a piece which speaks praises about a dead person, but how many dead people are worth the praises? The truth is even a corrupt man will be sung off as a hero even in death because people consider it rude to do so.
When dictators die, the people who take over ensure they speak well of those who the took power from.
Life is bad in some places because we are only honest in private and dishonest in public. If a corrupt politician or individual was present, a lot of people will sing praises of the person and make person feel they are trying and as such, the person won't feel the evil of what they are doing.
Half the problems caused in this world are caused by people who feel tell themselves and others lie. We think honesty is all about saying the truth, no, it is about living the truth.
A dishonest man tells himself all is fine and right even when it's bad an ugly and is willing to bribe his way to prove his point.
My late grandma (God rest her soul) once told me that "the cup you'll drink from will never pass you by" just do the right thing.
I used to feel that chances once missed won't be recovered again, but I realized that any chance that requires you to become less of yourself or compromise on your values to get to the top is not worth it because at the end of the day, you are only filled with regrets.
I realized that the right chances will come along, all you have to do is be prepared. I have learnt never to envy the ways of the dishonest man because it only comes with destruction at the end of the day.
Imagine losing everything at the end of the day because we allowed dishonesty to thrive in our hearts.
So many men have climbed the ladder dubiously and have fallen completely because a house built on dishonesty will surely crumble by the dishonest foundation, karma doesn't sleep.
It pains when me when I see people believing that they are sharp when the right word is being dishonest, it pains even more when those people are supposed to be leaders.
Don't be fooled, if you can't beat them, don't join them. Avoid dishonesty and dishonest people like the plague, the world will only grow when honesty is included in our lives.
The dishonest man finds it hard to sleep because he has to maintain a standard of dishonesty for the rest of his life, if you envy him, you court death.

The future success of a structure is determines by the concrete foundation given at the beginning. Honesty is the fact that can never be change to become lie. Once there is not honesty at the beginning , the structure crashes in a point time. Thanks for sharing bro

Above statement said it all about honesty, we live in the time now especially in Nigeria that honest has been thrown in the gutter. When you are even trying to be honest they call you all sought of names ranging from "you know sharp, you be mugu, na you holy pass... (Sometime ago a keke man was narrating how a passenger forget N150,000 in a bag in his keke he said tried to locate woman all through the day that he did not work some of his fellow keke drivers said to him that it is God that used the money to bless him but he did not yield to there advise and trace the woman till he located her house. Unfortunatly reach there, the woman properties was outside because the husband threw them out that she should go and look for the money before she will be accepted back to the house. The keke gave her the money without any reward but was happy that the woman and her husband reconcilled at the spot)" we are in a pathetic suitation @ehiboss. For me i have decided to be honest in all my dealing come rain or sunshine
Everything of what you said is just the truth. Atimes, looking at the short term result you can earn by a dishonest behaviour or remark, it seems alluring. But from my experience, nothing beats the feeling of remaining honest and getting what you want much better and greater later, and with a great peace of mind!

I agree 100% with what this article says because I live in a country that has been destroyed by dishonest politicians that have even taught the people to be dishonest themselves. That only leads to a moral bankruptcy first and economical bankruptcy later. Very good post.
Honesty is indeed the best policy and a culture we all must imbibe, we must be deliberate about it, reminding ourselves daily of its importance. A half truth or distorted truth is nothing but dishonesty and it hurts, disappoints.
So many relationships have been broken, because dishonesty undermines relationship and breaks trust.
Honesty is a virtue that worth living for!
Honesty is indeed the best policy. Nigeria definitely would be a better place if our leaders are honest. Honest in their manifestos,,promises, leadership and so on. The world would be a better place if it were filled with people who are honest and care about how their decision affect others. We all got a role to play, it starts from the little things we do and think they don't matter
Most people try to lead honest, wholesome lies, but in a system where liars are left unchecked by the people they rise to the top and exploit the gullible. We entrust them with great power every day, and we see how that goes. In some places it is dangerous to speak out or act against these injustices, but I still have hope that we can slowly, sometimes quickly, move towards a world where justice and opportunity is truly available for all and good living in itself is rewarded as it should be. Take care in Nigeria, I hope that your country and continent see a big change for the good in the coming century.
