Santa & magic & possibility

Christmas is coming. I love it. Especially with an 8 year old daughter who knows that Santa only visits kids who let themselves believe in magic.

You may think it's too early to start talking about Christmas.

But it's not. Not when kids the world over are writing letters to Santa listing what they want - because they've lived up to their end of the bargain. They've been good.

The great thing about Christmas, for me, is the magic.

Every child deserves to feel happy, safe and loved.

Every child. Every where.

And every kid needs a chance to dream of good things.

Toys. Books. Games. Sports gear. Roller skates.

Food.

Once a year, just once, for many kids around the world, Christmas brings this comfort.

Once a year.

My daughter appreciates this. She loves that Santa gives presents to everyone around the world.

What a beautiful, noble, selfless ideal.

Just once a year.

It's an ideal worth believing in - and building on.

Just once a year?

We can do better than that.

Surely the world, with all our resources, can do better than that.
