Sheep or Wolf?

in #life8 years ago (edited)

This question has always intrigued me. As far I can remember, when I was a kid I would consider myself as a good boy cause I was polite, kind and quite. I used to think that we rather born as a sheep or as a wolf. Sheeps being people like me with a good education and a natural kindness. Wolfs being the opposite, mean people with a very bad behavior. Those were my definitions as a child.

By the time I was 15, I thought that we were genetically programmed to either follow the crowd or lead people, to either please others or do it our way. For the first time of my life I felt like I was forced to do things that I didn't want to do, just in order to be like my friends. I found myself acting differently, even with people who knew me the most. But anybody will tell you that this behavior is totally normal for a teenager and that it will past.

But still, I do thing that this is the critical point in someone's self development. Because at that stage of our life, our only mission is to find who we are. So it may be not so clear at that time but we actually have two options in order to shape our character for the next couple years.

  • The Sheep way: Look around and find a model to follow (parents, friends,...)
  • The Wolf way: Look around but build your own path.

So as the years go by, I feel the urge to do a big change in my life. Even if I used to be a sheep, now I want to become a wolf. Because, once again, it is all about what you want to achieve and hopefully as we get older we tend to be more critical about information we receive from others. As a result, we tend to listen to ourselves and that can lead to this big change if we want to. But it is not that easy folks! One thing to consider is this FEAR that stops most of us to unleash our inner wolf.

At this point I am about to start the hardest fight of my life. I am prepared to face doubts, critics and failures! And unfortunately most of us will give up along the way, pretending that it is too difficult or blaming anything else but themselves. Some of them will even tell you that you can't do it just because they know someone who tried but failed.

Here comes the part where I am not longer who I used to be but who I want to become and eventually the new me will win the war. It is hard to be a wolf in our society but it is even harder to be a sheep! Because one is struggling to realize his dreams and will avoid regrets, the other one is peacefully following others but regrets will kill him.

So...sheep or wolf?...

Thanks for reading.

maybe in life there are times when you need to be the sheep , and other times when you can be the wolf

Totally agree my friend, but too many people are complaining about they situation but do nothing to change. Fear is freezing them.
