The story of a box who is fed up with stuff... A minimalist journey
I just don't know anymore man... What's my meaning of life? What's my role in it? As a box, it used to be stuff. Filling my head with as many objects and items and knick knacks as possible. But lately, I begin to feel like more stuff doesn't equal more happiness. This got me thinking. Thinking good... I'm just saying: for a box, it's nothing short of an identity crisis when collecting doesn't bring you joy anymore!
My name is Jon. Jon Doos (that's Dutch for "Jon Box" and it sounds a little like the English "John Doe", funny, isn't it? Because I don't know who I am anymore?) I'm a box living in the Netherlands. And my head is just so cluttered lately! So I need to stop, review my life and come to the center of myself again...
From now on, I'll be filling my life with experiences instead of stuff. As a box living in the Netherlands, there is plenty to discover just outside my doorstep.
There are so many beautiful places and buildings to admire out there! I want to free my head and see them all.
I hope my journey will inspire you to seek more space and experiences in your own life as well. Space is valuable, far more valuable than stuff!
By following my journey, you also support the Dutch organisation "Change Your Space", which seeks to make people aware of the importance of space, nature and of the world surrounding us, and the impact that consumerism has on it.
Hey @changeyourspace, welcome to Steemit!
Hi Jon, welcome to Steemit! I took a look at your web site ant it looks really nice and the message is clear. I grew up in an environment full of collectors, hoarders and stuff! I have tried to find a happy medium by only keeping the things that I have actually used in the last year or so. But I can't part with my keepsakes and reminders of the places that I have been and the things that I have done. My memory gets worse as I age, and I have so many good memories that I don't want to loose, and I'm very afraid that if I get rid of all of my stuff I will also lose part of my life that is stored in memory. :)
Hi @deaconlee.
Thanks for your reply! This is exactly why we started this platform. Stuff aren't a "bad" thing, but we believe people need to be consious in what they keep and what not. Like you :)
This is why we are collecting stories about these items: to make them shine in a museum (which is normally reserved for works of art) Would you perhaps be interested in sharing the story of one of these items you find it difficult to part with? That would be awesome!
I saw a wonderful documentary a while ago: "Minimalism". In it, two young guys recommend the benefits of a minimalist way of living. However, they state that "If your collection of books makes you happy, for god's sake keep the books!"
I will think about writing that story. :)
Cool :) if you would feel more comfortable, you could also contact me for that on [email protected] (I could see that just adding it here might feel strange)
