Principle of the Day

in #life6 years ago

Principle:  'The glory of the world passes away.'   'Sic transit gloria mundi.' - a Roman Maxim.

Quoted from the film 'Patton' ; ......the story behind the maxim is as follows.....

In ancient Rome, the phrase is said to have been used on occasions when a Roman general returning from a victorious campaign with his conquered foe in chains before him, his children attired in white riding on white horses, his chariot pulled by white stallions, passing the Via Appia, through the Forum Romanum, past the Colosseum, was parading through the streets of Rome during the victory celebration known as a 'Triumphal Procession'.

Standing behind the victorious general was a slave, who had the task of reminding the general that though all the glory of Rome was at his feet at that moment..... that just as certainly all glory is fleeting. The servant reminded him of this by whispering in his ear, whilst holding a golden olive branch above his head;  'Sic transit gloria mundi' .......'The glory of the world passes away.'

as for the principle - so true - to some ;)

Hiya, mon ami.

Very kind of you to drop by with this lovely comment.

All the best to you.

A bientot.

isn't it .. though many legends and trend starters have gone awol from life already
their legacy remains
and their names are still constantly being mentioned by the many
their work still being read on many books even in schools
some are mostly on cars ... if i may be shallow
they maybe gone but their legacy lingers on ... somehow, they are alive
but there is such a few ..

how can I not drop by, it's very rare that we're both online these days isn't it
glad to have bumped on this post soon before the damn VI drops if you know what I mean
have a great day out there, smelling the roses :)

So true......

Oh yes....was glad to see we were practically posting simultaneously....a very pleasant surprise.

If only the tradition had not fallen away!!

I must say those are some exquisite photos. I love water droplets on petals!

Oh yes.....that would be grand.....just think then we would all be reminded.

Thank you for your kind words regarding the photographs @meesterboom.

The camera really liked those droplets as well....it could hardly focus on the rose... ^__^

All the best to you and yours.

Cheers!

Hehe. Oh I have had that camera problem before!

Certainly no more glory now than the Romans had. Haha. Death for glory doesn't happen anymore. As always, excellent photography & a great lesson! Best wishes!

Greetings @hansenatortravel.

Thank you for stopping by.

So true.......it was a time of great pomp and circumstance...it is doubtful anything comes close to that time in history.

Appreciate hearing you enjoyed the post.

You have some great posts out there.

All the best.

Cheers!

Thank you bleujay! It seems I need to get back into the educational aspect. Waiting on my old account is not going to work much longer. Haha

Yes...please do.......posting what you know and enjoy is best. You seem to relish both travel and education.

Capacity for life can bring interests in multiple areas.

Let's see hansenatortravel could signify both a visible travelling and an invisible travelling such as one does in education......pursuit of education....could it not?

You will get it sorted with no problem.

All the best to you.

Cheers!

There is something so elegant and romantic about the pedals and curvature of a rose and you captured them beautifully.

Greetings @mellofello.
