Warning warning everyone, random magpies are poised ready to attack hapless walkers and cyclists. Crikey it is magpie nesting time again. How come this time has arrived so quickly? Are we all ready for these zooming birds that go for our heads. Scary stuff for us Australians.
All children and adults are fair game. These dastardly nesting magpie protectors of their eggs and their baby chicks do not discriminate. They charge whoever walks or runs below their nests in the trees. The tricky thing is that not all magpies attack.
Sensible Australians are planning for their defence; getting out the spiky helmets and placing umbrellas beside the walking shoes. It seems that they deter the charging birds. They work thank goodness. Ordinary helmuts makes cyclists fair game and I guarantee they are merciless. I have seen the wounds caused my magpies and I assure you their beaks are dangerously sharp. In some reported cases magpies can hurt children's eyes so badly that they can loose their sight. Magpies are protected and so decisions have to be made by the authorities to move the offending birds far away to another location.
Here is a neighbourhood magpie that has decided to visit regularly. He walks through the house happily and bold. Of course he is fed with some fresh meat. I think that the bird telegraph has been busy letting all the feathered friends know that this garden has lots of food and one bulldog that lives harmoniously the birds. As long as Marley gets a bit of meat she is happy; she sits patiently waiting for her little bit.

Cheers
