Introduction
Hello and welcome to the official blog of Ledgerback, a Platform Cooperative performing research, consultancy, and advocacy in innovative, disruptive, and emerging technologies and markets.
In the past week, Ledgerback has recruited 2 new members and Scout Charles Adjovu represented Ledgerback at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Blockchain Day event.
For this coming week, Ledgerback will focus on 1) Promoting and Advertising Greenback, 2) Planned Research on Bikechain and BlockLicensing, and 3) Website Redesign into Open Research Platform.

Last Week
New Members
In the last week, Ledgerback has been pretty busy.
2 new members (hereinafter Scouts) have joined Ledgerback.
From everyone at Ledgerback, thank you for becoming Scouts and joining us on our mission.
This takes our membership total to 8 Scouts.
UNLV Blockchain Day
Scout Charles Adjovu attended University of Nevada, Las Vegas's (UNLV) Blockchain Day on Ledgerback's behalf.
UNLV Blockchain Day was hosted by the UNLV Computer Science Department to showcase student projects on blockchain use-cases, and to bring the local blockchain community (companies, professionals, developers, business personnel, etc.).
UNLV Blockchain Day was a great event to attend because we were able to connect with local blockchain companies in Nevada, and to see how our local university, UNLV, is rapidly developing blockchain developers to push blockchain adoption in Nevada.
The 8 student presentations were phenomenal and showcased a variety of blockchain use-cases.
The presentations covered the following areas:
- Internet of Things (IoT)
- Casino Gaming
- Energy Trading
- Online Marketplace
- Healthcare Billing
- Private Communications
Thank you to UNLV and all the sponsors who made the event possible. Hopefully, we have more events like this one propping up.
Coming Week
This coming week, Ledgerback will focus on three main objectives:
- Promoting and advertising Greenback Marketplace, the over-the-counter (OTC) p2p trading platform.
- Continuing our planned research on Bikechain and Music Licensing
- Redesigning our website (the ".coop" domain) into a open research platform
Greenback Marketplace
We plan to promote Greenback Marketplace through a combination of word-of-mouth, physical postcards, and online marketing.
Our physical postcards will be placed around Las Vegas, NV, and we hope we can garner enough interest from this advertising campaign.
Planned Research
Our research on Bikechain and Blockchain Music Licensing continues this week.
First, we finally have all the physical parts needed to conduct the eBike conversion. The major things left now are figuring out our technical approach. Should we create a decentralzied applciaiton (dApp/DApp) that interacts with the blockchain and uses Interplantary File System (IPFS) for storage? Or should we simply take the data from the eBike and store it directly onto the blockchain?
Other than the technical approach, we are also starting our literature review for our expected research report on Bikechain. The research report will cover our creation of the blockchain-connected eBike, a review of existing literature, our findings, and hurdles and recommendations for the future.
If you have any suggestions on research we should examine, please send us an email at [email protected] or leave a reply.
If you would like to contribute to the Bikechain project, please send us an email at [email protected] or leave a reply, and we should be in contact within the next 2–5 business days.
Second, for Blockchain Music Licensing (BlockLicensing), we are continugin to find more and more intricacies arising from the multi-jurisdictional nature of international copyright licensing. From our precursory research, two of the main issues we expect BlockLicensing to encounter are 1) "in writing" requirements of certain jurisdictions, and 2) validity of electronic signatures.
In the USA, this concern over electronic signatures has been codified in the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (E-Sign Act) at the Federal level, and by the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) at the State level [1].
While in the European Union (EU), electronic signatures are regulated through the electronic IDentification, Authentication and trust Services (eIDAS) regulation [1].
The major question is the compatibility of both electronic signature frameworks and when a blockchain-backed signature will meet the requirements of E-Sign Act, UETA, and eIDAS [1].
If you have any suggestions on research we should examine, please send us an email at [email protected] or leave a reply.
If you would like to contribute to the BlockLicensing project, please send us an email at [email protected] or leave a reply, and we should be in contact within the next 2–5 business days.
Website Redesign
We are redesigning the website to showcase our research emphasis and to allow for an open process in the creation, compilation, analysis, and provision of research, specifically in the blockchain industry.
The redesign will showcase our current and planned research (described above), and allow anyone to sign up to our website to contribute their ideas, knowledge, skills and feedback on research projects.
We will hopefully have the redesign completed in the next 2–3 weeks.
If you would like more information on the website redesign, please send us an email at [email protected] or leave a reply.
About Ledgerback
We have created a short guide to Ledgerback, titled "Guide to Ledgerback." Not our most creative title, but it is straight to the point.
You may find the Guide to Ledgerback here.
Otherwise, the information below sufficiently describes Ledgerback and its' activities via Scouts.
Short Description
Ledgerback is a Platform Cooperative performing research, consultancy, and advocacy in innovative, disruptive, and emerging technologies and markets.
Our main research activities are conducting:
- research (primarily publishing research reports and summary reviews),
- surveys and polls (generally concerning societal adoption of blockchain or specific topics within blockchain communities),
- consultancy (assisting projects with their issues), and
- advocacy (promoting the local blockchain community in Nevada).
In our advocacy, we provide the Nevada Blockchain Directory, which may be found at www.ledgerback.coop.
As a Cooperative, we are a community-driven organization owned, managed, and operating for the benefit of our members to realize their common goals.
If you are passionate about about our interests or works, we implore you to join us and create a brighter tomorrow for the new digital frontier.
