The Ledger Nano S: One of the Best Hardware Wallets
Hey everyone!
Today i'm going to be doing a review on The Ledger Nano S.
What is The Ledger Nano S?
The Ledger wallet is a very compact, not-too-hard-to-use type of wallet. It comes with the small USB-like wallet, an amplifier cord to connect into your computer, phone, etc, and it has a little piece of paper to write down your 24-word passphrase, and finally, a few little straps to connect to your ledger to keep it around your neck or on you key-chain!
What currencies does the Ledger support?
The ledger can hold TONS of currencies, such as: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Dash, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Ethereum Classic, Zcash, Ripple, Stratis, Komodo, and a bunch of others!
Where Can I Get The Ledger Nano S?
Just go onto any online platform like Amazon or Ebay, and you can get it for around $150, which I know seems pricey, but its worth it!
Do I need to Install Something on My Computer To Connect to the Ledger?
Yes. You have to go onto their website and download a free wallet for whatever you choose, go to https://www.ledgerwallet.com for their website!
They have multiple wallets for Bitcoin and Altcoins, Ripple, and a few more.
What is Better about The Ledger then on a free online wallet?
First off, online wallets are through a company, so if that company goes down, POOF, your money is gone. But with a hardware wallet such as the Ledger Nano S, you have 100% access to your wallet, and if the Ledger burns in a fire if your house blows up, then you still have that 24-Word Passphrase that you can use to access your money again.
How do I set Up the Ledger Nano S?
This is the more complicated part.
There are 2 buttons on the top of the ledger that you use to access everything, left button to make a letter or number go down, right goes up. If you click both buttons at the same time, its basically selects it and you proceed.
When you are first getting your Ledger set up, you are going to make a 4 to 8 digit passcode, and after that, you need to write down your 24-word Passphrase. That either can be done on the paper they gave you in the ledger package, or you can write it down in your notes somewhere. (If you want, you could have on your computer, but I wouldn't recommend it.)
After you finish that, now is where we start to get it on the computer.
First, plug in the small side of the cord into the Ledger Nano S, and then put the USB port into your computer. Once that is done, your connected, you have to plug it in before you can turn the ledger on, so then you will do the step above.
Now go to https://www.ledgerwallet.com/apps and download the the wallet that you want to store that certain crypto on.
You also have to download an extension for Google Chrome called Ledger Manager, which you put the currencies you want on your Ledger.
Once all that is done, you can access your crypto wallet through your computer, and store all the crypto you need!
Thats it for today guys!
