Persian ironwood, whose scientific name is parrotia persica, is a deciduous tree in the Hamamelidaceae family.

It grows rapidly when young, maturing to 30 m tall and 8-15 m wide in the garden, has many stems, and is essentially very compact.

The leaves are ovate, alternate, often slightly oblique, 6-15 cm long and 4-10 cm wide with wavy margins.

They are glossy green in color, changing from dark purple to orange to bright red in the fall, often on the same tree.
