Kimchee Family
Kimchee is very big in Korea. As a wedding gift my mother-in-law bought me a Kimchee refrigerator. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do with it and then two weeks later she sent a ton of kimchee.
Every son-in-law says their mother-in-law makes the best kimchee in the world, but I'm sure my mother-in-law really makes the best kimchee in the world.
The problem is that 20 years ago when I first moved to Korea I really didn't like the taste or smell of kimchee. It was too spicy and tasted sour. It kind of made me sick. It was November 2000 and our kimchee refrigerator was filled to the brim with kimchee. What was I supposed to do?
I woke up in the middle of the night with indigestion and remember a dream of the kimchee monster chasing me. Now twenty years have past and I cannot have a decent meal without kimchee. The meat seems too dry without kimchee and the whole meal boring. What makes or breaks the meal to me is the kimchee.
I had some fun with the names of kimchee and created kimchee characters. As time goes on I will develop their personalities and voices. I would even like to make puppets for each character.
Ma is based on Garlic Kimchee known as Manil Kimchee.
Pa is based on Green onion kimchee known as Pa Kimchee.
Bae Chewy is bast on Baechew Kimchee or Napa cabbage kimchee.
KAK Doogie is based on radish kimchee known as kak-doogie.
Chong KAK is based on Jongkak kimchee or bachelor kimchee.
These characters come together to make the kimchee family. Let me know what you think of these guys.
By the way I like to spell kimchee with 2 ees. It just sounds better to
They are so clever! Great creativity on your part! Does kimchee have probiotics, hence making it good for the gut? If it tastes anything like sauerkraut, I would love it! I thought your video was great!
Exactly @violetmed 😍 . Thanks for your encouragement. I will not give up on these guys. I felt sad because my youtube subscribers are not interested in paper kimchee yet but I'm working on them. My son said people catch on slow so keep creating. I will slip them into my ESL songs and people will see them. Honestly Kimchee tastes great and is kind of the pickle with a punch. It has probiotics and contains vitamins so great for the immune system. Some of it has been fermented for a while. I'm glad to hear that it hasn't gotten big in middle America yet. That means I can still introduce kimchee in a cute way to the whole world. Kimchee has an expanding power as it goes through the process of fermentation, kind of like yeast. I think you know where I am going with this. Stories, songs and real kimchee. Like vegitales on probiotics. I'm not giving them any hands or legs either.
Neat story. My apartment has a built-in kimchi refrigerator. Amateurs would think it's a dishwasher.
I realized I was hooked on kimchi when I had a dream about it. My mother was asking me what I wanted for my birthday dinner and I said Kimchi Stew. She apologized because she cannot make this which is true as she doesn't know much about Korea.
I can hardly believe you had a kimchee dream. My mom didn't know much about Korea either but she learned to make kimchee. Mostly it was my dad who got hooked on it. I guess it's just a matter of time before kimchee takes over the world.
On another note I have seen you around Steemit but for some odd reason I missed the fact that we are relatively neighbors.
Most of my Canadian family doesn't really like Kimchi except my dad and my brother. So no homemade kimchi for me in Canada.
There used to be a few English bloggers on Steem. A lot of them went when the price dripped below 50 cents for some odd reason. Maybe it will be a party again when it goes back up to 1$
The only time I have seen Kimchee, was at work. They found several, 11 year expired, jars of it and guess who got to dump them out.... Yep me. :/ lol
Wow 11 years!! That is quite fermented. I can imagine the smell. At first I thought the smell would take away from the cuteness of my characters but now I see that the smell is also very comic.
Thanks for introducing Kimchees to us. I am sure it will be great with rice. I loved the way you wrote about it.
Thanks friend, If you get a chance you should try some. It takes a few times to get used to it. Then you are hooked. I'm even thinking of changing my name to Mr. Kimchee.
Sure. You make me smile. Stay blessed
