Sweater Project #6 - 25 March 2025
Back in February I wrote a knitting update post about the sweater I’ve been making.
After a lot of unravelling, knitting and re-knitting the sleeves and cuffs, they’re much more comfortable now as they’re wider and longer. I think what happened was that I decreased too quickly from about 5cm after the armhole. What I decided to do was to only decrease as a approached the cuff. The cuff itself now has 46 stitches and it’s okay in width like that. I’m hoping to make better notes about the final number of stitches so I can replicate this garment in future rather than always have a ‘trial and error approach’ - of course what doesn't help is the different yarn thickness. I initially followed a cardigan pattern to get the starting number of stitches for the raglan. Because the pattern was for a cardigan I had to adjust and stopped reading the pattern early on (perhaps I shouldn’t have).
You may be able to see the slight colour difference in the cuffs. As I ran out of the original colour I used the yarn in my Plan B. It shows but it's not too noticeable.

Below I’ve included the photo before I unravelled so you can see the difference in the sleeves :

I also had to add a piece to the side of the jumper to make it about 12 cm wider. In future sweaters and cardigans I will need to remember to add more ease as well.
I've been wanting to start a new project for a while but I’m happy to have finished the jumper properly now so I can move on. I had actually started a portable project, ie a pair of socks, for when I need to wait either in the car or somewhere where I can knit without being seen. I’m happy now to resume that sock project. It’s got 64 stitches and I’m using some of that cheap Lidl’s self patterning/striping yarn.

This is going smoothly : I know what the shape should look like and I also know that very soon I’ll be starting on the toe section. I really like the fast results you can get when knitting socks !
Thank you for reading this far !
I'm happy to see the sweater is no longer a project, but a reality. I think the color chance is not so noticeable, in fact if You don't mention it I believe I wouldn't have easily noticed.
In the other hand (or should I say foot hahaha), I love the self patterning/striping yarn, it's great. I didn't have a clue of how that pattern was achieved 🤭.
You are a knitting artist. Congratulations!

Thank you so much for your kind comment @blessedlife 🙌
Omg how cute you got the sweater, you have beaten my friend, she is still in the process, but it is looking very nice.
The knitted socks are very cute, today my mom showed me a model that I really liked, but the girl was a little higher than the knee, I am hesitant whether to do it or not but I think I will be able to do it quickly.

hello @sammy1109. I'm really curious to see whether you will make that pattern 🧶

Hello @analp, thanks for your comment !
I've now washed the sweater using some fabric softener and it feels softer but the weather's so nice that I'll have to wait for a cold day to properly test it 🌞
I still haven't started the second sock ! When I knit inside the car it probably looks as if I'm reading so I don't mind 😁
The color of the cuffs follows the combination, the modifications you had to make led you to a great result. Quite an expert, that makes it practice, knitting a sweater takes time, dedication, I admire your work. 🤗💕
Thank you for your comment @marito74. I'm happy I decided to make it fit better but in future I must try to anticipate that sort of problem as I really want to make other things 🙂
Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.
