Killer Pix Contest-May Flowers
My entry to @killerpix’s contest #34. Theme is May Flowers.
April showers bring May flowers.
In the month of May the colorful Lupins start to bloom along the highways of Prince Edward Island.
Lupins
These lupins are perennials with pea-like flowers. They are considered an invasive species but certainly brighten up the countryside.
The colors of the lupins I have seen here are blue, pink and white.
These lupins I photographed along the roadside. I have seen them in flower gardens. They are beautiful but have to be kept under control or they will multiply and take over a lot of the garden.
Because of the flower shape they are often called Bluebonnets. The name comes from the similarity of the flower’s shape to a pioneer woman ‘s bonnet, which she wore in the fields to keep the sun off her face.
