Learning your 5 year old kids to program
Just a cool app for all the geek moms and dads in crypt space: Scratch Jr. You can have a lot of fun with this together with your 5+ year old son/daugther (although my 3 year old can also appriciate the app!)
The basic is pretty straightforward. You can choose a background and a character and start programming what the character does (move, talk, jump). You can understand and explain the basics in 5 minutes, but after that you can also go in depth with adding characters, loops and if-statements.

Good post.
I introduced my nephew (11 years old) to scratch.
There's this dutch book starting from Scratch and moving on to Python.
It's an easy step towards getting the basics of programming.
And actually it's smalltalk related. So it's a very good way of learning the basics.
