What’s in a national anthem?

in #kenya6 years ago

Kenya, the cradle of mankind. A nation officially born in 1963, out of pain, blood and sweat of its forefathers. Composed of over 40 ethnic tribes, the nation came up with a national anthem, a prayer to God. The wordings were made by local people and the tune was selected from the Pokomo community. A tune sung to the children by their mothers. The anthem talks of peace, cohesion, justice, patriotism, loyalty, hard work and thanksgiving. Maybe this is why the world fell in love with the Anthem when it was played in the 2016 during the Rio Olympics. It was trending on twitter. Many termed it as the best there is, yearning for its lyrics.
Well, people of the universe, straight out of a great nation Kenya, a prayer, a lullaby, an epic song of all time… (drums rumbling)… the Kenya National Anthem!

O God of all creation
Bless this our land and nation
Justice be our shield and defender
May we dwell in unity
Peace and liberty
Plenty be found within our boarders

Let one and all arise
With hearts both strong and true
Service be our earnest endeavor
And our homeland of Kenya
Heritage of splendour
Firm may we stand to defend

Let all with one accord
In common bond united
Build this our nation together
And the glory of Kenya
The fruit of our labour
Fill every heart with thanksgiving
