Kathy Grifffin...ugh...let's wake up and smell the covfefe

By now, the media is blazing with the image of an aging comic holding the fake severed head of the President in stoic defiance of his policies, his election win and, seemingly, his existence. On cue, we have the backlash, and the apology. She is truly sorry (and likely financially disadvantaged) for this impulsive lack of judgement. Her detractors shout that anyone opposed to President Obama, or Hillary Clinton, who had dared perform such an act would have been suicided out of a career and dispatched out of polite society in a nanosecond. All true, and utterly predictable, and meaningless.

The sad message in this event is that we are stuck in an unproductive frenzy of tit for tat. The media loves hyperbole, and wannabe celebrities of all stripes willingly bring the bar down to levels once unimaginable. Kathy Griffin is not the last float in this parade of juveniles. Meanwhile, the fervor keeps us distracted and ignorant.

We're faced with a multitude of problems whose resolution will require focus, wisdom and maturity. Time to turn away from this clown show.
