NATIVE RICE CAKES DELICACIES IN THE PHILIPPINES
There are many different kinds of delicacies or “kakanin” popularly known here in the Philippines that you can choose to buy. Christmas is coming and the demand for this “kakanin” is very high.
“Kakanin” is widely known here in the Philippines, a very delicious and affordable food that you can have during occasions. Some of the native delicacies were also exported abroad because of the unique taste and appearance of this “kakanin”.
Here are the following delicacies:
- PUTO – This steamed rice cake is plain and white topped with cheese, slices of salted eggs, or butter and this is the most popular kakanin.
- KUTSINTA – The color of this kakanin is brown, very sticky and has grated cocont on top of it.
- BIBINGKA – This is cooked in clay oven heated by a coal place on top. It was made of glutinous rice and coconut milk. It is brushed with butter, sugar and grated coconut on top.
- PITSI-PITSI – This is made cassava and coconut and according to research it was originated in the province of Quezon.
- PALITAW – It is also made of glutinous rice. The way of cooking it is dropped into boiling water, you will know it is cooked when they float already, and that is why it is called “Palitaw”.
- BIKO – This is a sweet “cake” made also of coconut milk and rice. Biko has been serve for many occasions like birthdays, Christmas, New Year and even Fiestas.
- ESPASOL – I am proud with this product because this is one of our own. It is made of rice flour, sweetened coconut meat and coconut milk. It is a long tube dusted of toasted rice flour. I can guarantee you this is one of our best seller and it is best for “Pasalubong”.
