Esteemans appreciated this time I want to share with you, a biography of one procer heroes of the independence of Venezuela, as is the general José Félix Ribas was born in Caracas on September 19, 1775 and died in Tucupido, Guárico on January 31, 1815 He was an illustrious Venezuelan military man, General in Chief and hero of the Independence of Venezuela.

He was son of the Caracas aristocrats Marcos Ribas and Petronila de Herrera. Married to Josefa Palacios, Simón Bolívar's aunt (whom he even arrested in 1814), 1 he excelled in numerous battles such as that of Niquitao and Los Horcones in 1813; but his most memorable action was at the Battle of La Victoria, where he defeated the royalist forces of José Tomás Boves and Francisco Tomás Morales with an army composed of young university students, after haranguing exhorting them to win.

It was fought under the orders of General Francisco de Miranda, and then assumed the military command of Caracas. He had to emigrate to New Granada in July of that year, when the First Republic was lost.

He began in the military career with the rank of Colonel, being entrusted to him the Battalion of Regulated Militias of Whites of Barlovento in 1812.

Death
After being defeated in Maturín by the realist Francisco Tomás Morales, he tried to flee but was betrayed and later captured in the surroundings of Valle de la Pascua. On January 31, 1815, subjected to numerous abuses by his captors, he was shot in the Plaza Mayor of Tucupido, Guárico state. His body was dismembered and his head was sent to Caracas, where the royalist authorities fried it and placed it on display to discourage the patriots.2

Legacy
In 1987, the José Félix Ribas Order was created to reward young people who provide an outstanding contribution to the country and citizens in the fields of culture, art, science and sports, music, among others. Since September 19, 2005, anniversary of his birth, rests in the National Pantheon a chest with the symbolic remains of José Félix Ribas, in tribute to this distinguished Venezuelan.
