Jollibee has opened in London but…
Yes the famous fast food place I know from the Philippines but is apparently all over Asia, opened its first store last week in London last week.
Jollibee is an extremely popular take away in the style of McDonalds or KFC but most definitely Asian in style.
Is this a big deal? It is for the Filipino community who literally overran it causing chaos and queues that went around several blocks in Earl’s Court.
Why is it a big deal? Chicken Joy is the big dish which is fried chicken as I recall. I haven’t been to the Philippines since 2004 but I visited Jollibee several times and can state that it is worth a visit.
Chicken Joy is served with spaghetti as far as I remember but can also be sided with rice or fries. It was always fries for me being a westerner.
@bingbabe and @dismayedworld visited the capital last Thursday and failed to eat at Jollibee.
I was told of huge queues spiralling around a few blocks, other restaurants getting pissed off as they had Filipinos waiting in them but not to eat at their eateries, and unhappy locals were seen complaining about this unprecedented huge wodge of people.
They visited around 1pm, were given tickets, yes you read correctly and told to return at 4pm. The number on the ticket was 740 – 741.
At 4pm they returned only to have 200 people in front of them. On enquiring about the people at the front of the queue they were told, ‘We had a time of 2pm and have only just arrived at the front’.
They conceded to defeat after these facts were revealed. Jollibee food was not going to be consumed that day.
It's annoying that one of the highlights of the London trip was denied to them, but we can hardly blame Jollibee for being 'too popular'.
Supposedly they are going to expand to the other cities of the UK including Manchester. I will be waiting for their arrival, but not on the first opening week.

A local friend and I once took almost 20 street kids into a branch on Makati avenue many years ago and we just let them go through the menu. Was one of best days of my life. It was just so much fun and noise and generally brilliant! My personal favourite was the Yum burger, I was never a fan of the cold and sweet spaghetti!
I went in the Hong Kong branch a couple of years ago and it was terrible, nothing like the ones in Phils but no doubt I will try this one at some point in the future.

I have been to the same Makati one you mentioned. During my 3 visits to the Philippines we have always stayed in Makati as it's considered the safe area. My wife is filipina if you had'nt already guessed.
The was a great thing you did, there's kids on the street begging there and everyone who is white is American and named Joe to them.
I can't remember the Yum burger as I always had the Chicken Joy. It's too long ago since I had a Jollibee. One day I will eat there again.

Yeah it’s crazy. The Pop community here is rabid. I have customers coming in asking for it saying they NEED it. I’m like...”you NEED it?” It’s a mascot to a chicken chain that you have never eaten at a d just found out existed. They are like “yup...I need it”. Lol
Wow. Just wow. I think I have a better chance of chewing off one of my own fingers than waiting in line a couple of hours to eat fast food. That is simply amazing to me...

No.. its not worth queuing for. Queue's are pet hate of mine. I could be doing something useful.. like scratching my arse?
As I have aged, I find that the things I will wait in long lines for have diminished considerably.
Holy smokes, what a problem to have! I'll have to see if I can find one in California...we have a ton of Filipinos here (I think Tagalog is the third most used language in the state).
They do exist in the US, and I'm sure there is at least on in California. You should try the place, the queue is not there for no reason. For a fast food place its good.

Wow that is pretty crazy! I have never heard of it before, but that probably makes sense being from where I am. I don't know as though I would ever wait in line that long for something. I am trying to think of the longest line I have ever waited in. I feel like it was at Disney, but it is hard to say. Hopefully they get to go sometime soon and you can get some pictures of the food. I would love to see the chicken joy!
