WISE MEN WHO LEARNED THINGS FROM THE STARS 1
2 JESUS WAS BORN IN THE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM IN THE COUNTRY OF JUDEA. It was the time when Herod was king of that part of the country. Soon after Jesus was born, SOME WISE MEN WHO LEARNED THINGS FROM STARS CAME TO JERUSALEM FROM THE EAST.
2 THEY ASKED, “Where is the King of the Jews Who has been born? WE HAVE SEEN HIS STAR IN THE EAST. WE HAVE COME TO WORSHIP HIM.”
Matthew 2:1-2 (New Life Version)
1 Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea, during the time when Herod was king. SOON AFTERWARD, SOME MEN WHO STUDIED THE STARS CAME FROM THE EAST TO JERUSALEM
2 AND ASKED, “Where is the baby born to be the king of the Jews? WE SAW HIS STAR WHEN IT CAME UP IN THE EAST, AND WE HAVE COME TO WORSHIP HIM.”
Matthew 2:1-2 (Good News Translation)
1 When [After] Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea during the time when Herod was king, SOME WISE MEN [astrologers; magi; a class of wise men and priests who practiced astrology] FROM THE EAST CAME TO JERUSALEM.
2 THEY ASKED, “Where is the baby who was born to be the king [or newborn king] of the Jews? WE SAW HIS STAR IN THE EAST [or when it rose] AND HAVE COME TO WORSHIP HIM [pay him homage].”
Matthew 2:1,2 (Expanded Bible)
• Every person born to this world has a star. Those who work with the power of darkness to some extent can know what the person would become through discernment.
- Jesus' star was seen far away in the east. The people called wise men, in some of the translations of the Bible, are astrologers or magis.
- Some translations call them magis while some call them wise men, or astrologers. They are stargazers; they are into the study of the stars and their influence on people's lives: " . . . SOME MEN WHO STUDIED THE STARS CAME FROM THE EAST TO JERUSALEM" (Matthew 2:1 Good News Translation).
- They are also called forecasters, predictors, or fortunetellers.
These people who came to visit Baby Jesus were not Jews, they were heathens. What they saw about Jesus' star alarmed them, that was why they came all the way from the east to pay homage. They knew that Jesus' Star was a special Star.
- As Jesus was born with a star, you also was born with a star, a good and glorious one for that matter. Star varies in glory:
40 THERE ARE ALSO CELESTIAL [heavenly] BODIES AND TERRESTRIAL [earthly] BODIES; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41 THERE IS ONE GLORY OF THE SUN, ANOTHER GLORY OF THE MOON, AND ANOTHER GLORY OF THE STARS; FOR ONE STAR DIFFERS FROM ANOTHER STAR IN GLORY" (1 Corinthians 15:40,41 NKJV). - As individual person has a star through which the person's life could be predicted; these stars are differ in glory. The glory of the star A might be different from that of the star B. Jesus' Star was a kingly Star that propelled those astrologers to come and pay homage to Him (Matthew 2:2).
• It is God's Will that every person succeeds and becomes great in life, however, the stars are not the same in glory—they are different in glory. This is the reason why the Bible says those who are into unhealthy comparisons are not wise (2 Corinthians 10:12).
- You are given ability or talent with which you are to fulfil God's purpose for your life on earth. Your purpose and assignment is different from that of another person, thus, there is no wisdom in comparing yourself with the person, even to the point of being envious of him or her.
- You should be able to understand your gift or ability, and what you are given the ability to do and what you do not have the ability to do (Romans 12:6).
- No matter how you strive, labour or toil, what you are not given the ability or gift or enablement to do, you would not be able to do it.
- In the parable of talents in Matthew 25:14-29, each of those servants were given talents according to their abilities:
"AND TO ONE HE GAVE FIVE TALENTS, TO ANOTHER TWO, AND TO ANOTHER ONE, TO EACH ACCORDING TO HIS OWN ABILITY [dividing it in proportion to their abilities]; AND IMMEDIATELY HE WENT ON A JOURNEY" (Matthew 25:15 NKJV). - In other words, these servants' stars are not the same, they are differed or varied in glory. Probably the one who was given one talent, who traded not with the talent, was offended; thinking why should he be given one talent whilst five and two were given to his colleagues.
• You should not allow jealousy, neither should you allow offences on whatever any other person is doing. The work of the person might be bigger than yours, do not allow that to demoralize you; the person has been given the ability to do it (Romans 12:6).
• You will not fail in Jesus' name.
- Should there be any ailment in your body, receive your healing now in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
- Whatever the hold of enemy in your life is broken and completely destroyed, never to rise again in Jesus' mighty name.
Peace!
