北海道・利尻島の利尻富士町の海岸で５月３０日、ヒグマとみられる足跡が見つかった。島にヒグマは生息していないとされ、出没は明治時代に対岸から泳ぎ着いたヒグマが捕獲されて以来１０６年ぶりという。町は島民や観光客らに注意を呼び掛けている。

このニュースを聞いた時、僕はすぐにGoogleマップを開きました。
あれ？利尻島ってそんなに近かったっけ？

When I heard this news, I opened Google maps immediately. That? Rishiri Island so close?

いやいや！直線距離にしたって２０kmあるよ？！
あの巨体で20kmも泳げるのか？
106年前に来たヒグマは、雄の成獣で体長2.4m、体重300kgあったそうです。

No no!
Did straight away and it is 20 km?
You can swim in that gigantic Figure 20 km? Brown bear came to 106 years ago, it was 2.4 m in length and 300 kg in weight in the adult male.

もしかして熊って泳ぐの得意なのかな？
他にも事例がないか調べてみると…

北海道の洞爺湖の中島で昔、養豚をしていたが、そこに熊が泳いで来て豚を食っていたという事例が見つかりました。
中島までの距離は3km。
今回の利尻島と比べて潮の流れなどが無いにしても驚きの距離ですね！

Case is at Toya Lake in Hokkaido, Japan Nakajima, had a hog bear swam there, eating a pig that was found.
It's 3 km distance from the Nakajima. Even compared to Rishiri Island in time, tide, such as no surprise away!

森の母性と言われている熊ですが、その活躍の場は森だけでなく海を渡ることもできるのですね。
大きめの川の対岸に熊がいても川があるからと言って安心できないですよね…
