🕌 The Jade Mosque of Nagan Raya: A Green Gem from Western Aceh
Hello, Steemians! 👋
Today, I’d like to introduce one of the hidden gems from the western region of Aceh, Indonesia — a unique and beautiful mosque known as Masjid Giok (Baitul A'laa), located in Nagan Raya Regency.
🌿 About the Jade Mosque
This mosque is famous for its architecture — several of its walls and decorations are made of real jade stone (giok), a natural treasure from Aceh. Jade is commonly used for jewelry, but here, it’s beautifully crafted into the structure of the mosque itself, creating a serene, emerald-like glow.
🧱 Unique Architectural Features
A large modern dome in Islamic style
Exterior and interior walls decorated with glossy green jade
Tall minarets that dominate the skyline from afar
A cool and peaceful interior — a true spiritual emerald in the heart of Aceh
🙏 Function and Community Role
More than just a place of worship, the mosque also serves as:
A Quran learning center for children
A venue for regular Islamic lectures
A resting place for travelers
A local religious tourism destination
📍 Location
📍 Gampong Kuta Baro, Seunagan District, Nagan Raya, Aceh, Indonesia
🛣️ Approximately 4–5 hours drive from Banda Aceh via Meulaboh route.

💭 Personal Reflection
As someone from Aceh, I feel proud that Nagan Raya is home to such a spiritually and architecturally remarkable mosque. Jade is no longer just a gemstone — it has become a symbol of Islamic beauty and cultural pride in our region.
