My neighbour Totoro - Il mio vicino Totoro (ENG-ITA)

Today I wanted to tell you about an animated film that I particularly liked: My neighbor Totoro by Hayao Miyazaki. This film is from 1988, written and directed by Miyazaki and produced by Ghibli Studios Inc, but arrived in Italy only in 2009, we know that the Italy Japan trip is quite long, is not it? Let's forget the controversy and concentrate on the film. The story is really beautiful, of those that are shown to children and adults also look at it very willingly. The style of the author is unmistakable, his works are always based on the education of the characters, creation of fantasy worlds and always manage to bring out the child enclosed in every adult.

Before telling the movie I leave you two information about Miyazaki, in case you might be interested in looking at his other works (or just for simple curiosity!). To date, Miyazaki is the only Japanese cartoonist to have won an Oscar in 2003 in the best animated film category with "Spirited Away" and is always the only one to have won a prize at the Berlin festival for the same movie. In Japan, Totoro's character was so successful that it was adopted as the Ghibli Studios Inc logo.

But now let's talk about the story! The sisters Satsuki and Mei move with their dad in the countryside, near Tokyo to stay closer to their mother hospitalized. In this film nature is very present, the two girls are excited about the new house and will soon know the various fantastic creatures that live near them! The first ones to make their appearance are the dust bunnies, the soot spirit that are so cute ... I know I can seem crazy, because they look like big ink spots with eyes, but I find them very sweet!

In addition to the bunnies will also appear funny furry beings of various sizes, including Totoro who is nothing but the good spirit of the forest. Totoro vaguely resembles a tanuki (a Japanese mythological creature that resembles both a dog and a raccoon), loves to sleep a lot, is good-natured and most of the time becomes invisible, showing only to those who want him. Needless to say the two little sisters will make friends with the good Totoro and all three will live an extraordinary adventure in the name of friendship! As you have guessed I really liked this movie, the issues could be considered trivial, but it does not. They are told with a simplicity that very often we adults have forgotten and that, let me tell you, most of the time we tend to underestimate or denigrate. History is very simple, if you think about it, what is more natural than friendship? I find that the fact that the two protagonists are two little girls help us to reflect, the children are without filters and they do not have problems to approach to what we can consider "different" and that can make us afraid. These girls have no problem to meet and make friends with fantastic creatures, I might have found myself a dust bunny at home I would have mistaken it for a spider and I would have smashed it! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the article and if you have not done it yet I highly recommend you to watch this film, maybe with your children. One last thing: if you were in the urgency to look for a car and you do not have it, try to call the famous "nekobus", you will not regret it!

Oggi volevo parlarvi di un film di animazione che mi è piaciuto in modo particolare: Il mio vicino Totoro di Hayao Miyazaki. Questo film è del 1988, scritto e diretto da Miyazaki e prodotto dallo Studio Ghibli, ma è arrivato in Italia solo nel 2009, si sa che il viaggio Italia Giappone è piuttosto lungo, no? Lasciamo perdere le polemiche e concentriamoci sul film. La storia è davvero molto bella, di quelle che si fanno vedere ai bambini e anche gli adulti la guardano molto volentieri. Lo stile dell'autore è inconfondibile, le sue opere si basano sempre sull'educazione dei personaggi, creazione di mondi fantastici e riescono sempre a far emergere il bambino racchiuso in ogni adulto, vi pare poco?

Prima di raccontare il film vi lascio due informazioni su Miyazaki, nel caso vi possa interessare guardare altre sue opere (o anche solo per semplice curiosità, decidete voi!). Ad oggi Miyazaki è l'unico disegnatore nipponico ad aver vinto un Oscar nel 2003 nella categoria migliore film di animazione con “La Città Incantata” ed è sempre l'unico ad aver vinto l'Orso d'oro al festival di Berlino per lo stesso film. In Giappone il personaggio di Totoro ha avuto così tanto successo che è stato adottato come logo dello Studio Ghibli.

Ma adesso parliamo della storia! Le sorelline Satsuki e Mei si trasferiscono con il papà in campagna, nella periferia di Tokyo per stare più vicini alla mamma ricoverata in ospedale. In questo film la natura è molto presente, le due bambine sono entusiaste della nuova casa e ben presto conosceranno le varie creature fantastiche che abitano vicino a loro! I primi che faranno la loro comparsa sono i nerini del buio, spiritelli della fuliggine che sono carinissimi... Lo so che vi potrò sembrare folle, visto che più che altro sembrano delle grosse macchie di inchiostro dotate di occhi, ma io li trovo dolcissimi!

Oltre ai nerini compariranno anche dei buffi esseri pelosi di varie dimensioni, tra cui Totoro che non è altro che lo spirito buono della foresta. Totoro assomiglia vagamente ad un tanuki (creatura mitologia giapponese che assomiglia sia ad un cane sia ad un procione), ama molto dormire, è bonario e il più delle volte si rende invisibile, mostrandosi solamente a chi vuole lui. Neanche a dirlo le due sorelline stringeranno amicizia con il buon Totoro e tutti e tre vivranno una straordinaria avventura all'insegna dell'amicizia! Come avrete intuito questo film mi è piaciuto molto, le tematiche potrebbero essere considerati banali, ma non è così. Sono raccontate con una semplicità che molto spesso noi adulti abbiamo dimenticato e che, lasciatemelo dire, il più delle volte tendiamo a sottovalutare o denigrare. La storia è molto semplice, se ci pensate cosa c'è di più naturale dell'amicizia? Trovo che il fatto che le due protagoniste siano due bambine faccia riflettere, i bambini sono senza filtri e non si fanno problemi ad approcciarsi a quello che noi possiamo considerare “diverso” e che può farci paura. Queste bimbe non hanno problemi ad incontrare e stringere amicizia con delle creature fantastiche, io magari mi fossi trovata con un nerino in casa lo avrei scambiato per un ragno e lo avrei spiaccicato! Comunque, spero che l'articolo vi sia piaciuto e se non lo avete ancora fatto vi consiglio vivamente di guardare questo film, magari assieme ai vostri figli. Un' ultima cosa: se vi trovaste nell'urgenza di cercare un passaggio, provate a chiamare il famoso “gattobus”, non ve ne pentirete!
