IOTA Transaction Spammer - Help the Network
Hi Fellow Steemers.
I am sure you have heard about IOTA, the Next Generation Blockchain. The 'no fees' scalable wonderkid that is making rounds.
IOTA payments are made by the sender doing some Proof of Work. This means that CPU power is spend to confirm 2 transactions on the IOTA network. IOTA payments can also consist of a zero-payment. A zero-payment also helps the network because 2 other transactions are confirmed each time.
Someone made a webapp to make these zero-payments from a webbrowser. See the thread at Reddit.
If you want to help out making the IOTA network better, just:
- download the webapp as zip from Github (link from Reddit thread)
- make sure that you download the stand alone version (the 'master' version does not work correctly)
- unzip
- open the index.html file
and your PC starts doing the zero-payments on the IOTA network. This speeds up confirmations on the IOTA network.

It seems hard to find a node were it works. Keep refreshing after 5 minutes if nothing happens.
Can you explain what a zero-payment is? Is it like making a transaction without a proper value, but since I'm confirming the transaction with this browser-app, the whole tangle network gets more stable?
My understanding is limited but I understand that you can make a zero payment but still do the proof of work on 2 prior payments on the network. So it is essentially free work done for the benefit of others, not yourself (although you may see payments confirming quickly on the IOTA network as a general benefit).
The idea is that payments get confirmed more quickly. But it is unclear whether the full nodes can handle this sufficiently already (many light nodes, less full nodes out there). So this user initiative is also a good test to see how good IOTA can handle 'spam'.
