The White House has been the domain of men for as long as I can remember. It was always a man in charge, and it's still a man in charge today - but that's about to change.

The first woman to hold the position of First Lady will be appointed by President Donald Trump in 2020. This is a historic moment for women across the country, because it means we're going to see more women in positions of power and influence.

As someone who has always admired female leaders, it makes me happy to think that this could be just one step toward equal representation in government offices around the world.

It's hard for me to imagine what life would look like if women weren't so underrepresented today. What would happen if we had more women in Congress or at high levels of government? Would we have better policy decisions? Would people trust their leaders more? Would they feel safer?

I can only hope that this change will inspire other young people like me who want to make our world a better place for everyone through public service - because there are so many ways we can make
