Hello Steemit! and Why am I here?

Hello Steemit community!

I am a university graduate awaiting to do even more graduate schooling. Truly, I am happy to have the opportunity to do research in the field that I love for the ultimate cause that I love (conservation). And in between academic research and search for jobs, I have come to research independent media resources. My points of view have broadened, have grown more complex. I believe it all started with Wikileaks, or it might have been earlier with a 9/11 architects and engineers pamphlet given out by a local band. The place where they gave that concert, a wretched art house backyard, no longer exists and is being replaced by high rise luxury apartments.

I have come to Steemit because I believe it is the right platform to express my views on what is going on in the world. I have come to join the community of people who have moved away from other platforms such as youtube and twitter because of censorship. I am glad that instead of relying on large platforms that have become tools of someone else instead of for the people, people used their creative juices to create something new like Steemit. I am sure Steemit will not be the only one. There is bitchute as well so far.

I have had the desire to speak out but facebook was not the right place. Nor was my literary blog. I found myself fearing how my colleagues would view me. After all, it is supposed to be a lighthearted place but all I ever wanted to share and speak about lately borders on serious and important. I did join twitter as a way to keep up with Wikileaks and supporters while expressing my political views but of course, there is the character limit.

In a hipster-like fashion, I am proud that instead of doing the easy thing and staying with the most heard of and largest platforms, despite finding out about their hypocrisy and manipulation, we are doing the difficult thing. We are building and getting through the long approval sign up process (mine took 5 days), the small community size, etc.
