Introducing Myself

in #introduction7 years ago (edited)

I have postponed this story until now, but want to let people know who I am. You would think that this wouldn't be that complicated, but this is a time of my life where I am in the process of reinventing myself you might say. I have been going back to the roots of what makes me who I am and exploring the shaping factors in my life. This is challenging stuff, as I try to figure out what motives caused me to go in certain directions.

I became a Christian at an early age, and that was a driving force in my life for many years and still is though I am currently examining it. Two years ago, I started reading Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand, and it challenged my thinking. It made me examine my own motives and the motives of others, which you can't always figure out. I have always been someone who comes to conclusions slowly, but when I reach a conclusion, I hold it very deeply and with reasoning behind it.

For the past year, I have been holding Christianity, and some of Ayn Rand's philosophy in tension. This has made some of those who hold strong Christian beliefs uncomfortable, especially those who I am close to, and has been something that I haven't wanted to talk to others about, because I don't want to make somebody else struggle with an issue that would reduce their faith in God by my questions.

For this and other reasons, my past couple of years, have been challenging. However, I think this time and questioning are key to who I will be in the years in front of me.

So some more details about me: I was a successful wrestler in High School in Oregon. I was a good student. I worked in schools as a wrestling coach, aid and teacher. I am an avid Oregon Duck fan, because I went to the University of Oregon. I have worked on starting three businesses, and am still trying to make the third one successful. I have been a Bible reader for many years of my life. I currently am studying chess. I am an avid game player, both in person and on-line. I have never been married. I am a truth seeker.

Thanks, for reading this! I would love to get a chance to get to know as many of you as would like to take the time to get to know me. I realize that I used the word I a lot in this post, but perhaps, I will be excused, because this post was about me.20150519_114155.jpg
This picture was an unintentional selfie I think, but I thought it was apt to post.

Here a few tips for starters snce you probably won't get any advice from those who comment under here, here's what I gathered thus far.
It's tough to make money at first so if that's your main cause to be on here grind that into your head straight away, that doesn't mean you shouldn't post content, you should, but enganging with others in the comment sections to grow your following is your best bet. Which categories?

Probably the introduce yourself one and the photography section but you can choose things that you have knowledge about too and then go from there just know that there is a lot of crap on here so plowing through that just to connect with others can be tough. Cheers.

Thanks for the advice!

Greetings and welcome.

I like the unintentional selfie, and hope that you succeed in sorting through things. Also, since you can use 5 tags, why not edit your post to include the tag #introduceyourself ?

Hey @grwduck , welcome to Steemit! Out of curiosity, what do you plan to post about? How did reading Atlas Shrugged make you question your ideals?

Hope to hear back.

I have posted some pictures of where I live with stories. I post about videos I have seen and articles which I have read. I have posted about some fruit that my business has available.

Atlas Shrugged is a novel that seeks to lay bare Communism, Socialism, Bureaucracy, Religion, and Altruism. It is a thousand page novel that takes a Socialist Bureaucracy to its logical conclusion, at least according to Ayn Rand's view of what the conclusion would be. In reading it, I was challenged in my business ideas, because when I formed my business, I had a little bit more of a socialist type philosophy, and quickly discovered that all my current and potential customers were capitalists in how they wanted to purchase from me.

Furthermore, Ayn Rand argues for selfishness as being the best philosophy rather than altruism. In the book, she examines people who live off the generosity of people, while internally their very being disapproves of the one who is being generous. As a Christian, I have always been very others-centered, and probably took a lot of how I saw myself off of how others saw me. This is an area, that I am still pondering in who I should be. A key passage from the Bible related to what I have taken as foundational for me is Matthew 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments."

This is some of what I have been pondering through as I seek truth.
