 Modern Horseshoe Crab , also known as  Horseshoe Crabs 。

 The blood of the horseshoe crab contains no hemoglobin, but contains hemocyanin, so the blood is blue. Their blood is dedicated to bacterial endotoxins test. Cost: $15850 per litre.

My wife was telling me of this yesterday.Said it is abusive to the crabs and this blood is used to sterilize medical needles and instruments.Her concern pointed to the habitat of the crabs found predominantly in the Gulf of Mexico which is contaminated due to the BP oil spill and the possible toxicity of their blood ergo contaminants of the medical equipment.
