They're hardly synonymous (unless my dictionary's wrong) but is hardwork a prerequisite of success? I'd say in 99% of cases, yes. You might be born with amazing genetics and had the perfect upbringing to make success real easy for you, but I'm pretty sure most people do not fall into such a category.
