We Are: The Guard - Steemit Intro aka We’ve Had Enough! The World Needs A Music Filter

Hello Steemit! We’ve heard many great things about this community. And you know what? Like Sasha Fierce once said, we’re ready to “put a ring on it” and join. Yes, we are lifers. Plus, what better way to start off the new year than to join a group of amazing people and their stories!

So who exactly are we?
Our name is We Are: The Guard, we’re a crowdsourced label and music filter, founded by Benjamin Groff, who also recently joined Steemit here!

Benjamin’s been fortunate enough to sign a number of amazing artists ranging from: Grimes, The Lumineers, Ryan Tedder, SOPHIE, Ariel Pink, Cut Copy, Peaches, Kelly Clarkson, OneRepublic, Chairlift, Soko, Kid Cudi, TOKiMONSTA, City and Colour, TOKiMONSTA, Active Child, and Tiesto just to name few.

And as a crowdsourced label and music filter ... our sole purpose is to make sure we deliver to you the best music ever.

We’ve met some pretty amazing comrades and music aficionados, like our writer Jess Grant [pictured in the main image] who has been there from the beginning, curating and adding her thoughts to our Best of Indie and Best of Chill columns. There is also Beca Arredondo [pictured in the main image], who curates and contributes to the weekly Best of Indie Pop. And of course there is the infamous Duffster from Glasgow, who entered our lives as a curator and now serves as a consultant. We’ve also been fortunate enough to be working with amazing writers who are just as passionate about music as we are.

Our mission has been to filter the best indie, indie pop, alt chill, and new music out there. Our great team of humans (yes, humans, not computer aggregators) sifts through the 50,000 songs released each and every week and bring you the handful of nuggets that we’re finding before they blow up.

We may forget to sleep and eat every now and then, and more times than not we dance out our frustrations, but it’s all worth it when you come across a talented act. We are so passionate about it in fact that we want to make sure we always bring you the most super credible music goodies, (and not to be snobby about it ... yes, we love great artistic pop music, as well as the coolest indie).

Through our journey as a music filter and Benjamin’s experience as a music publisher we’re super proud of the artists who we not only love but also have the pleasure of signing. Yes! We are a music blog that is also signing and supporting early artist development.

The We: Are The Guard family now includes DENM, Butter, Dog Orchestra, Jesse Saint John, MXMS, and Mother Falcon. But, I don’t have to tell you how great they are when you can listen for yourselves.

Our roster has grown because of our passion for uncovering the best music currently out there, some call it an obsession, but hey tomato tomato. Some on our label were found through our readers who later turned into Guards (this could be you) and earned a percentage for the finding! Yes! We have prizes and if certain tiers are hit, we actually pay people when they submit music to us that we love and didn’t know about.

If the music is super good, and the artists are super talented, and the circumstances are just right, we make a deal, and YOU, the guard, earns a cash reward for finding the new signee. Who does that? Who in these days pays you for submitting music? We Are: The Guard. That’s who. In fact, it was one of our guards who introduced us to the symphonic - rock band from Austin, Mother Falcon.

All you have to do is submit your awesome music or the awesome music that you listen and we take care of the rest. It’s kind of like the stop.drop.and roll except it’s more like
SUBMIT + WE LISTEN = REWARDS.

We’ve always imagined an amazing community of passionate music fans and music scouts making new music discoveries AND getting credit for it.

We’ve put our heart and soul into music discovery and have always wanted a special music site/app, that without fail, would deliver the best songs. We’re just a group of passionate individuals fueled by great music and we are super excited about joining Steemit and building a corner here for new music discovery and building a community.
