book review - angels and demons
Hey there!
So I’ve been reading this book by Dan Brown called Angles and Demons. Dan brown also happens to be the author of the da Vinci code, which is a widely read novel. This book’s got about 135 chapters which is a lot for someone who hasn’t ever crossed the fifth chapter of ANY book. It starts off with introducing us to the main dude in this book, Robert Langdon, a 45 year old professor of religious iconology at Harvard. He is awoken by a phone call from a man called Maximillian Kohler who claims to be a discrete particle physicist. He says that he has something that he wanted to show Langdon and couldn’t discuss it over the phone. Because Langdon received such calls before, he didn’t really bother to get further information and just ignored the call. He was even offered the best sex of his life if he would fly down and verify the authenticity of a cruciform. Just when he was trying to enjoy the silence of his room he heard another ring but only this time it was his fax machine. What he saw on the page really caught his attention. It was the corpse of a man who was stripped naked and had his head twisted backwards and to make things worse he had a burn on his chest, he was branded and the burn read ‘ILLUMINATI’.
Back in the day the scientists had their own opinion as to how we all came into existence and had a scientific explanation for it but the Catholic Church disagreed as they believed there was a higher power and a god who created them “in his own image”. Well this difference in opinion caused a lot of argument and because the scientists were outnumbered they had to stay dormant and submissive because if they put forth their opinion they were killed mercilessly. The scientists formed a group ‘the illuminati’ and stayed low-key for about 400 years and worked in secret just so they could have their revenge and resurface right time. They had definitely planned a few steps ahead and the reason they had an upper hand was due to infiltration. No one could be trusted at this point.
The man who was murdered was the father of Vittoria Vetra who along with her father had created antimatter that was stolen and had to be returned to prevent to annihilation of most of Rome. So we see Langdon and Vittoria race against time in order to find the antimatter as well as the Hassassin, the murderer who was about to kill four cardinals in the most unthinkable ways.
