INTRODUCEYOURSELF
.Hello dear steemains, this is my introductory post and I'm very happy to be a part of this wonderful community.
I was introduced to steemit by @florae, and I'm here to be a part of the wonderful and motivating people here on steemit.
I'll start off by telling you a short story about my self
Lego !
My name is Ofonime, I am from Nigeria and a final year student of Agriculture in the federal university of uyo,uyo in the southern part of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom state.
I have a flair for Agriculture, and I'll be blogging about tip to run a small farm and garden.
In Africa, there is low youth participation in agriculture. This low level of interest in agriculture is believed to be influenced largely by a negative stigma attached to the sector. African youths view Agriculture as highly unattractive due to risks, costs, inefficiency and it's labour intensive nature. Economic factors have also raised problems like unavailability of land and improved inputs, lack of start off capital and inadequate credit facilities, low farming profit margins, and a lack of agricultural insurance, also limits interest in this sector.
This has always been a problem and a major reason why there's high poverty rate in Africa. I am here to give tips on how to run small subsistence farms and also encourage the youths to participate in agriculture as it is not as cumbersome and unlucrative as it may seem.
(panos institute,2001) said , food in the stomach is like fuel in machines...will there ever be a drama more beautiful than that of eating ? Haha
The first step in eradication of poverty in the offline is agricultural development, this is because agriculture is a key driver of non-farm economic development, each dollar or naira of additional value added in agriculture generates another 50 to 90 cents in second-round income gains elsewhere in a country's economy.
Growth in the agricultural sector will be at least two to four tone more effective in poverty reduction than in any other sector, with agricultural extension yielding at 35% rate of return (juma, 2011 )
In conclusion, Steemit is a very good opportunity for me to promote agriculture and try to do my best in helping people help themselves with the tips I'll be providing in my subsequent blog posts.
If you enjoyed reading this and feel my proposed subsquent post would be of help to most people around here , follow, upvote and resteem this post.
Thank you
So excited to be a part of this platform hurray ♡♡
Welcome to Steemit Ofonime. I know there are a lot of problems in agriculture even here in Australia. Farmers tend to be underpaid, and the big supermarkets somehow make all the profits... Still, we all need fresh fruit and vegetables to get by, so what you're doing is important. I expect you'll be welcomed kindly here on Steemit. Have a great day!
Very underpaid, u hope farmers don't leave their farms and chase money in cryptocurrency and leave us hungry. Lol
Lol @samstickkz hahahahaha. I wont stop farming, I'm even here to give tips to develop your farm. Thank you for stopping by
