What would you do in this situation? Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Rob was a Sophomore in high school. He had no idea where he was going or who he wanted to be when he actually got there. All Rob had ever known growing up was his close-minded family and their religion, Mormonism. They always had been Mormon and it seems they always will be Mormon. He was taught to never question this unspoken fact. He always attended church service and bible studies, following all of the teachings. He was turning into a man his father could be proud to claim as his son.
It seemed all was well within his life, but his mind told a different story. He’d replicate his father’s legacy by signing up for sports, but he was conflicted. Deep down he thought that sports were stupid, but he repressed these feelings for fear of his father’s disapproval. His father’s temper was the driving force behind his conformity.
He had a hard time choosing which sport he should sign up for, but the decision to sign up for football was made when he observed one of the practices. There was another boy who’d go to these practices, one he kept watch on. For some reason, he had feelings deep down for this boy, the kind that he could not shake. Rob didn’t even like football. He only signed up because he noticed that this boy had. If he had it his way, he would be taking drama class.
As it turns out, Rob was gay, but a troubled teenage boy. No one in his family had a hunch, only his mom. His mom told him to shake the feeling and to go to church more. She told him that doing so would make the feelings go away. But they never did. One night, he and his parents got into a wild argument when his father found out that he liked this other boy from football practice. They ended up throwing him out, and now, Rob had no place to live. He slept on friends’ couches from time to time, other times staying at his grandma’s house. His grandma on his mom’s side was not Mormon, and she welcomed her hurt grandson with open arms.
It was one night, late Spring, that Rob was driving home from practice, when he got into a car wreck. He died at the scene and was never able to come out completely or tell the boy from practice how he felt. The moment he died, Rob woke up to a bright room. He was lying on the ground, of an all white room. He noticed a chair, so he quickly stood up and sat down in it. On a table in front of where he sat was a form, reading, “Create Your Own Planet”. There were a couple pencils and pens in a glass jar sitting next to the packet, which appeared to be some sort of contract too. He had the natural instinct to pick up a pen and start filling it out, when suddenly the one door to the room opened, almost dissolving in its frame. The light coming through the doorway was so bright, that Rob had to look away, as he felt overjoyed from the energy of the rays. In walks this man, about 5’11’’, medium-slim build, sleeve tattoos, and long brown wavy hair with a medium beard. He’s wearing gold overalls and a white button up short sleeved polo t-shirt with gold Crocs. He’s rather built in muscle, and he has a huge grin on his face. “Welcome to the club, lad”. As soon as the door appeared behind the man again, the bright lights went away. Rob’s jaw dropped immediately, as he could spiritually feel who it was that entered the room. It was in fact, Jesus himself. “But, but--you don’t--”, Rob gasped. “Not what you were expecting?”, Jesus laughed. “No, not at all. But to me, you look exactly how you should”, Rob replied. “That is because in your afterlife, I am a perception of the relationship we had when you were on earth. I appear to you only in the way you can relate”, Jesus said. “That’s so cool”, Rob said. “Now, are you ready to tell me what you’ve been wanting to tell everyone since you were little? Are you finally ready to be free, to love yourself, and to spread love to others? I know that you were raised Mormon, and that my son, just isn’t a true interpretation of the truth”, Jesus proclaimed. “You---already knew that I’m gay?”, Rob gasped. “Yes my boy, I‘ve known all along. See, God made you who you are for a reason. And He loves you for staying true to yourself, the best that you could. Now, I don’t normally do this, but since you were raised Mormon, I will grant you one thing that is taught in the doctrine---your own planet”, Jesus said with excitement.
