Fall of a meteorite Chelyabinsk — collision with a terrestrial surface of fragments of the small asteroid which has collapsed as a result of braking in the atmosphere of Earth on February 15, 2013 approximately at 9 hours 20 minutes local time (UTC+6). The superrace car has blown up in vicinities of Chelyabinsk at the height of 15 — 25 km

Judging by duration of atmospheric flight, atmospheric entry has happened under very acute angle. Later about 32,5 sec. after that the celestial body has collapsed. Destruction represented a series of the events which were followed by distribution of shock waves. The total quantity of the released energy by estimates of NASA has constituted about 440 kilotons in a trotyl equivalent, by estimates of the Russian Academy of Sciences — 100−200 kilotons, by estimates of employees of INASAN — from 0,4 to 1,5 Mt in a trotyl equivalent. By estimates of NASA this the biggest of the known celestial bodies falling to the Ground after the Tungus meteorite in 1908 it corresponds to an event, the events on average time in 100 years. Scientific magazine Geophysical Research Letters (English) with reference to the results received after the analysis by scientists of the French Commissariat of an atomic energy of data of touch stations I have given an assessment in 460 kilotons in a trotyl equivalent (the highest rate for all the time of supervision over nuclear testing), and I have declared that the shock wave has twice rounded Earth

In total 1613 people, the majority have suffered from the beaten-out glasses. Have been hospitalized according to different data from 40 to 112 people; two victims have been placed in intensive care units. The shock wave has also damaged buildings. Material damage to the budget sphere and the population has constituted 490 million rubles, the total amount of damage (including industrial enterprises and objects of federal subordination) — about 1 billion rubles. From February 15 to March 5, 2013 in Krasnoarmeysk, Korkinsky and Uvelsky districts of Chelyabinsk region emergency mode has been introduced.

The celestial body has not been found before its entry into the atmosphere. The first splinters, in the form of small meteorites, have been found several days later.
