Who am I headline

My name is Kerie Hinchliffe I live in the West Midlands, UK and a lovely little town called Kingswinford. I haven't lived here long though. I moved here when I became my brothers' full-time carer. Thats him in the picture above.

I grew up in South Africa, firstly in Johannesburg then later on in Margate a quaint seaside town not far from Durban in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

My father worked away a lot, but I spent a lot of time with my mother who instilled in me a love of reading and writing. In some ways, it was an idyllic childhood, and in others ways it was difficult. My brother who is older than myself suffered brain damage shortly after birth, so a lot of my time growing up was spent helping my mother to look after him. This has indeed made us a very close family.

When I was 17, my parents finally split up. This meant a move for our little family of three. We left South Africa and our close friends behind to make a new life in my mothers home town of Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.

I was lucky I found a college where I could complete my education and went on to higher education completing a degree in Business Studies and then a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. I have worked in all types of education facilities in and around South Yorkshire, Kent and London. Now helping to care for my brother and doing a few days supply teaching to pay the bills.

My entrepreneurial ambitions

Even though I worked as a teacher for longer than I can remember. I always wanted something more. Back in 2005, I left teaching to go back to South Africa, which I started an Internet Cafe, Computer Supplies shop and technical shop. I loved it but sold it two years later as I was missing my family who stilled lived in England. So I returned to England and teaching.

Then in 2009, I started trying to make a living online. I did a bit of affiliate marketing, reskinning and creating apps, building websites, writing and publishing Kindle books. All of which was great fun and lots of steep learning curves. But then back in 2015 I became seriously ill so all my little sidelines had to take a back seat as I could only manage to concentrate on one thing which was my job as a teacher in a girls school which I loved.

What I do when not teaching, caring or writing!

In my free time, I love to read both fiction and non-fiction. In fiction, I love a good Lee Child or Jo Nesbo or some chick lit authors like Milly Johnson and Jojo Moyes. In non-fiction, I love self-help books and anything and everything to do with Law of attraction with, "The Secret," being the first book in this niche that I had ever read.

Hi @krishnakuya, thank you for reading my post and the upvote. Sounds an interesting career, what sort of trips do you take people on?

I usually take people for 1 day hikes around Mumbai

I would love to visit India one day.

You are most welcome. I can take you to some good places around. Do you like mountains or historical places?

I love both, although historical places have the biggest interest for me

Hi @zeitlini, thank you for the welcome and I will certainly check out your work. Both my brother and I love to paint.

Welcome to Steemit, Kerie! I think you and I have a lot in common. I was in college for early childhood education when I found out I was pregnant with my oldest son. I have always had a love for children and teaching, but I didn't finish my degree. We do a lot of homeschool activities with our boys, so in a way, I'm still getting to teach! I also LOVE to read!

I think you have lots of skills and experiences to bring to this platform, and I can't wait to read more from you! Oh, and be sure to check out @steemiteducation, they do a lot of resteems and upvotes for educational posts (assuming you plan to write some of that here :) )

Hi Kecia, thank you for your kind welcome and fab recommendation. It does sound like we have a lot in common. There is nothing more I enjoy when a pupil has an aha moment and creates something wonderful with the skills you have just taught them, and I sure you get that with your boys when you do homeschool activities.

Reading takes you to so many places real or imagined. Looking forward to reading your posts too.
