WANNABE AUTHOR -MY FIRST ONLINE STORY - THE LITTLE COFFEE SHOP ON THE CORNER

in #introduceyourself8 years ago (edited)

HELLO FELLOW STEEMERS :)  my name is Livvie and I have just found this wonderful site " Steemit" I am a budding author at the very age of 13 years old... My passion is writing short stories and coming up with wonderful plots for new stories. I write different genres and I am very excited to share one of my lastest short stories with all you Steemers. Ideas come to me at the most randomest of times! It is crazy, yet wonderful. I would love to be an author when I am older as I love books and want to write stories that other people will enjoy.

Please give me some contructive crisitsim and I really hope you enjoy this story.

If I get some good comments (Fingers crossed) I would love to post some more!

Ps. The cover above was one I made for fun! I do all my own cover design work but use images I find online.

THE LITTLE COFFEE SHOP ON THE CORNER

Tapping away on a table, a short, lilac haired girl sat there; reading ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’. Her eyes scanning over the slick cream pages, that held the twisted, warped knowledge from the psychotic yet genius writer. Determination and curiosity seeped it’s way through the girl’s mind, filling her with pleasure from her favourite book. She understood every word, every riddle that it beheld, her only sanctuary away from the delusional world that she so happened to live in. Chatter filled the little corner coffee shop, as she just sat there, staring into the little thick book.

“Lily.” A waiter called out. The girl lifted her head, staring right at the waiter with an innocent smile.

“Thank you.” She whispered quietly, giving the man a small £10 tip. Going back to the book, she smiled as her favourite riddle, the one from the Mad Hatter’s tea party… “Why is a raven like a writing-desk?” She must of thought this riddle over in her head a thousand times, lots of logical answers could present itself, but no one really knew the true answer.

Sipping blissfully on a hazelnut hot chocolate, Lily put down her life-saver of a book, and watched as people strolled past the small cafe on the corner, in the middle of London. Rain patterns still hung off the wide windows, trailing after one another. She loved these days. Calm, elegant rainy days made her feel more relaxed, like she could do anything she set her heart to. A book in hand and a nice warm beverage to keep her going through the hours. Luxury. The world around her was full of fake smiles and nasty lies, the truth buried deep within ones soul. Drowning out the world, she sat with her feet crossed, nose deep in her book. The book understands her and she understands the book, every nook and crannyof this marvellous creation is printed with her brain. Word flowing around in her memory, remembering every little detail that is between the lines. A famous quote circled around her head… “Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what your going to get.” The concept to Lily was mesmerising, it was very true to the world she lived in, the dark lonely path of life. Everything may seem perfect, she thought to herself, but that is all just a show and we are the puppets. Lily sat patiently at the back of the room, humming a sweet little tune, by the grand shop window framed by cherry oak wood. She was like a delicate china doll, fragile yet strong. She knew she could take on the world, she just had to find the power from within. As the rain stopped, she wondered on out from the little coffee shop on the corner…

*Quotes from 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Forrest Gump.
